Hello,
I was looking at this myself. I'm surprised BMW couldn't tell you about their own bike racks!!
If you have a look in the latest MINI accessories brochure you will find that there are 2 types of bike carrier available for the MINI roof bars. 1 for mountain bikes and 1 for road bikes. It seems to come down to the diameter of the frame tubes.
I was looking at these myself a few weeks back. I'm still undecided on what to do...
I would recommend you purchasing a Thule Sidearm. We have this on our truck and our other car and they work perfect! I'm not sure what you mean about the Mini Roof Bars but in case your Thule 591 really does not fit, you could always purchase the Thule XAdapt9 from your local REI.
Congratulations on your new purchase! Please post pics as soon as you get 'em. I'm still saving up some money to get crossbars for my wifes Clubman.
Thought I'd bump this instead of starting my own thread. Wanting roof bars and a bike carrier for my MINI.
The official MINI one they want £250 for the bars and the carrier and they will fit it initially and show me how to do it too. They said it requires the plastic trim around the edge of the roof to be cut but I'm wondering how visible this might be when the roof bars aren't on the car!
Does anyone have any pictures of the official Mini roof bars on their car and of the trim where its been cut? I looked at the Thule and Mont Blanc ones but they have an extra leg which I don't like the look of as the fewer parts that are touching the paintwork the better in my opinion.
Somewhere on the forum is a link to the installation instructions for the roof bars - I'm sure these show that you cut off a bit of the roof trim and the bars come with plugs that fill the holes when the bars are off.
