Best way to fit rear number plate

Hi all,
Purchased a personalised number plate for my wife's Christmas "MINIS 0" - went to fit the plate today and noticed that the car has 2 pre drilled holes on the boot with plastic inserts but they don't line up well with the plate. The old plate just had 2 ugly screws through the plate but don't want to butcher the new plates in the same way.
Any thoughts? 1 idea is to use external double sided tape, or to make some sort of secondary plate that would sit between the car and the proper plate - possibly made out of aluminium or plastic.
The front is fine since could easily screw through the proper holes into the front bumper.
Cheers, Paul

All our plates use the double sided tape, and we have never had one more or slip. Screws are ugly and only used if you want to doctor plate.

The ones we use are unibond I think they were aboutv£3 from DIY shop and we put about 6 on each plate.
