DIY New mini roof rack.. Is it worth it

I have been looking at fitting a roof rack on my 58'plate mini. But I'm worried after watching videos on YouTube that it is going to damage my roof in some way. By cutting out the rubber won't that mess the water seal? Or am I just being too paranoid?!

A guy at work has one fitted but his mini is a company car so he wasn't bothered. You do have to cut pieces out of the rubber I think he said it was a bit nasty to do. Don't think I would be doing it as what if you wanted to remove the roof rack at a later date. Holes in the rubber with no roof rack fitted :-(

That's what I was thinking, by watching the videos it has to scratch the roof. So eventually it will rust?

I fitted the roof bars to my 2006 R56 several years ago and then removed them and the holes are filled with little plastic fitments. I have never had a problem with leaks despite lots of rain. And the rails did not damage the roof. They are a bit of a fiddle to fit and the hardest bit is finding where the rubber is perforated to access the fitting holes for the first time.

I recently installed the OEM Roof Rack to my 2010 Cooper S. It's black, and I was worried about scratches.

I installed it in 20 minutes, by myself, using towels on the roof to protect while I set it up.

Install/Uninstall is incredibly easy, no scratches or marks so long as you take the necessary precautions.

The holes you create in the weatherstripping are 'plugged' by the roof rack. Keep in mind the Mini is specifically designed to have this done. When you want to take the rack off, you use the supplied plugs to seal the hole.

It's simple and an amazing addition to your mini.

Do what I did, and study this instruction inside and out. It'll make it a breeze in the long run. h t t p ://turn17.com/?p=261

Thankyou, I would love to put one on there. The video just flagged up something in my head. But it all seems to be pretty good and easy on the car. Also wont have to go to a mini dealership to fit it
