Thule roof bars for R56 hatch.

I am considering some roof bars for my 2010 mini hatch. Has anyone got any experience of Thule which according to Halfords means Thule 754 carriers.

Can these be fitted without damaging the car/rails when they are removed. I only want them on for holidays.

Thule roof racks are superb in my long experience of using them on many cars. I have just bought the bits off eBay, i.e. 750 rapid System and 1680 fitting kit to go with my existing aero bars with locking end caps.

The 750 is the older version of the 754 but it uses the locking end caps which I already have.

I have an R55 (same fitting as a R56) and you need to remove using a knife, a small section of rubber trim from 4 areas on the roof. This sounds drastic but it is already marked out for you with 2 tiny marks for each location and the 1680 fitting kit has 4 blanking pieces just like the Mini ones. The procedure is the same for the factory fit Mini roof rack.

Actually I may have an issue with the 750 and the 1680 fitting kit. The 750 is on its way so I won't know until it arrives. I have now read that the 750 is not compatible with the 1680!

I cut out the sections on the rain gutters today and that turned out to be much easier once you figure out what to do. You can use the outside edge of the gutter as a guide to get a straight line.

I have spoken to the dealer today and he says the genuine one needs the trims to be cut as well, doses anyone have picture before and after? Cheers Neil
