I have a Mini Cooper S and discovered this morning that some )£&@;( scratched my car. I have been to a few body shops that can respray the panels from £150 to £400 in total.
My questions are:
1) Any advice on finding a decent body shop in Edinburgh?
2) the base coat is showing, are there any other cheaper options than a respray?
3) I have been quoted a range of prices, does anyone have advice on how I can tell if the garages are any good?
4) is it worth getting it done at my dealer (Peter Vardy)?
This the first time it has happened, so any general advice would be much appreciated
I suppose if you have it done via a MINI main dealer the work is guaranteed.
Cheaper garages wont/might not offer this.
If its metallic they you cant touch in very successfully like you can with solid colours so is always more expensive, normally, as the whole panel needs to be done to blend in with the surrounding ones so a colour difference due to fading isnt noticeable.
A neighbour had a Dent Magician company do a smart repair on a scratch on the rear wing on a metallic black Honda for £100 or so, the result wasnt bad at a glance but it was noticeable in certain light as they couldnt get the same finish locally as the surrounding paintwork.
Being a dealership doesn't mean it's a good body shop. If you have any high end auto dealers (Ferrari, R.R., etc.) in your area there's a good chance they don't have their own body shop because of the small number of sales they deal in. However, they do occasionally have a need to have some body work done. Ask them who they use. It's a good bet it will be some small shop off the alley but probably run or operated by the best body man in the area.
Peter vardy use a bodyshop repairer in Glasgow I can't remember the name of the shop but they done an excellent job of my old E92 BMW. I will try and find out what the place is called! Oh by the way this is my first post.
