so whats your mini ones top speed? its supposed to be something like 115 but ive hit 125 and could have gone faster i think, my cousins hit 130 and both of these speeds were with a full car so surely theyll be faster with just a driver? why is it they go so much faster than theyre recorded top speed? and the 0-60 time, i may not be able to get a car to 60 as anyone else but i got it in just under 10 seconds yet the official is just under 11 and i bet someone else will be able to get a faster time? did mini just make up the figures or what ?
First point, this has to be a legal conversation. No winks, nods or nudges. If this is not taking place on tracks or private land (or countries where these speeds are legal) then this thread will get closed down.
Secondly, the speeds and times you're quoting are according to what? First hand accounts? The (inaccurate) speedo, GPS, pro timing devices?
At 17/18 you really shouldn't be trying that speed whether its on private land or not. You quite simply don't know how to control a car. This is coming from someone not much older than yourself who has driven a variety of vehicles since 12.

yeah i dont drive fast anymore ive learnt my lesson had to scrap the 57 plate but bring on the 59 plate! i was just wondering why theyre soo much quicker than theyre supposed to be
NFU mutual is a banging insurance company they give you a new car of same model and spec if your car is uneconomical to repair and is under 2 years old, my car had £14k of damages was worth about £11k so that wasnt really worth it
What did you do to it to cause 14k worth of damage? Ouch!
Please slow down, but like you say you have learned your lesson. If I was your mother I would be terrified!
Respect speeds they are there for our and other road users safety. I can imagine "private roads" being less than well maintained so to have 4 people in a car at 125mph is not worth thinking about. When you drive you're reponsible for all the lives in your car not just yours. Think of the stopping distances and the force of your car would be travelling at at that speed! Tell your cousin to slow down too!
Glad you were protected in a 5 star NCAP MINI rather than some old banger I had when I first passed.
Stop lecturing now Laura....
Enjoy your car, if you want to go fast and get a rush from driving then book a lap on a track or something. Join others on the Top Gear track?
Enjoy your MINI! Love Nightfire Red!
To answer your original question, I have no idea why and how the MINI One goes faster than the manufactured quoted speeds. I think this is true with most cars though.
The listed top speeds are what the OEM tyres are rated to, rather than what the car will eventually achieve given enough room, a sympathetic gradient, and a tail-wind. If you're exceeding the specified maximum speed, you are almost certainly exceeding the speeds for which your tyres are rated as safe. Unless you'd like a 125mph blow-out, you'll need to change your T-rated OEM tyres to something like an H- (130mph) or a V- (149mph) rated tyre.
Personally, I can't think of any private facility, airfield, or track in the UK that has a long enough straight for you to test the maximum speed in a ONE. So I think Laura's absolutely right: slow down before you kill innocent motorists, your passengers, or yourself.
No wonder insurance is such a rip-off for the average new motorist.
