Hi all

I am in the process of specking a new Cooper S and cannot decide whether to have the LSD or not. What effect will it have against not having it and will it improve the way the car drives normally

Hi there has been info on this and if i find it will post link, I wish we had speced this think would help torque steer, and may help tyre life. Every day drive to the shops or town driving and would say would not notice, i'm sure some MCS members with LSD will help further look at there profiles to search what members have this option.

I have it...but only briefly driven a car with out it so hard to make a comparison.

Still definitely get torque steer even with it, would not say it is that noticeable in normal driving but you can get amazing speed out the car ping'ing out the corners... I would definitely spec it.

It is cheap at the £100 or so mini want. I also have DSC and have heard they re-tune the DSC to come in less when the LSD is spec'd (truth / rumour I don't know)...anyway, overall very very happy with the pair.

If you get an S... get the LSD.

i have an 06 R53s with LSD, i drove an o5 without lsd and mygod it makes some difference with cornering aggressivly and also when launching hard there isnt as much torque steer.

Got it on my July 07 MCS...it became available in March 07.

Well worth having, improves traction in bad weather conditions, loose road surfaces, cornering and more even tyre wear.

I specced this and until now had totally forgotten about it as I haven't yet had the opportunity to really push it hard. How can I tell that its definitely on the car?!

It should be shown on the invoice you had from the dealer.

Sure, I realise that, but that piece of paper is approx 500 miles away at the moment.

I was hoping I could nip out and check something on the car that would tell me....

Not seen anything visible on mine that you could quickly check... maybe call dealer and as then to check on spec ?

Yeah, I'm starting to think that might be the only option...

moog5....As you say the Invoice is 500 miles away, then visit any BMW Mini Dealer near to you. They can tell if you have LSD by keying the chassis number into their computer.
