turbo timer, needed???

Please let me know if what im saying is correct in the following sentences!

There is no turbo timer needed for the Cooper S R56 because there is an electric water pump that is flowing water through the turbo for quite some time after we shut our cars off. So if i push my mini hard on a hot day, there is no need when i return home to have the engine running for a min or so (idle). Ill just turn of the engine as soon as i arrive and then let the electric pump to do the thing its supposed to do and stops by its own when it feels like it should!

Am i correct?

There is a run-on water pump but I would still let the car idle for a short while if I'd been giving it some beans. The big problem is the oil breaking down due to overheating so its good to let the oil circuit get a chance to cool off on light load before knocking the engine off.

There is absolutely no reason NOT to let your car cool down for one or two minutes.
The oils must circulate and not remain hot in there, because this will harm badly the turbine.

So, just let it for one or two minutes, and you are done.

No reason NOT to do it.

Depends on how you use your car I suppose but I've never thrashed mine then immediately stopped. I always have a period of slower driving when say returning home due to town traffic and lower speed limits.

I have never driven my turbo cars any differently to NA cars I've owned and never had a problem. Your only wasting petrol letting the car idle away IMO.

In the old day's it was recommended that you drive slowly in order to cool the Turbo before parking. The Turbo on the MCS has a small pump that circulates water to cool it after the engine is turned off. In other words you have no need to worry

We must not mess the cooling of the turbine with the cooling of the oil inside the turbine.
That is the reason to leave it for one or two minutes, no more.

Best to let the car cool, but no need to tick it over unless you got a long enough to drive to give your car a good drive.

Question is the run on water pump very quiet? I have only had my MCS a couple of weeks so haven't run it in yet. But I have never heard a pump running after I turn the engine off.

If it is important on the S to let the engine idle for minute or two before turning it off, then when I pull up at traffic lights and the engine turns itself off automatically it must be doing itself harm?
I am sure BMW must have thought of this when they implemented the auto start stop, so I guess the water pump must be adequate to protect the turbo. So if you let it idle for a while you are just wasting fuel, and negating the whole point of the auto start stop?

CORRECT...........the cooling pump turns on/off automatically. The pump is very quiet in operation, all you can hear is a faint buzzing. When the car has been driven hard and you park it, the pump will run for quite a long period especially in hot weather.

My engine fan (thats what it sounds like) seems to run for up to 2 mins after i turn the car off after a bit of hard driving.

When everything's coming your way, you're in the wrong lane.

You are confusing the sound of the turbo cooler pump with the engine cooling fan. The fan will continue running for a period after the engine is stopped until the temperature drops. The engine cooler fan is much noisier than the turbo cooler pump.
