Question Removing front exhaust silencer?

Has anyone removed the front exhaust silencer on any of the R56 S's? It's the cylinder shaped one in the middle of the car.

If so, have you noticed any improvement in performance etc and does removing this silencer make the car too loud?

I'm thinking about doing this to improve gas flow out of the engine, same as the Challenge car, but don't want to do it if the exhaust becomes too loud!!!

Any comments would be appreciated,

Paul.

Probably not worth doing for power. You have the Miltek downpipe right?

You might find it's a bit too raspy with the high flow cat...

Here's a JCW with it done if you've not seen it:

I've got the Miltek downpipe.

If there's no increase in power, but an increase in noise, then I won't bother removing the front silencer?

Thank's for the info' Kevbuk.

Hi,

I did this, and it created a terrific amount of drone. Within a few weeks I put it back on and have been drone-free since

No increase in power
No increase in exterior exhaust noise
Huge increase in in-cabin noise

Just bought a Mini Cooper S !!

Thanks for the info' Futureal33,

I've decided not to remove the front silencer. I spoke to a local custom exhaust manufacturer who said that removing it would make no difference to the performance of the car, but would just increase the "drone" of the exhaust.... not good!
