DIY Bonnet scoop for air intake?

was wondering if anybody had ever considered, or has modified their bonnet scoop on their r56 to be used as an air intake?

i think you would need some kind of scoop that sat on top of the engine and connected to the bonnet in the right place when it was shut.

surely this would be better than where it takes air from now... next to the headlight in the hot engine bay, plus, it would make use of an utterly pointless bonnet scoop!!

cos originally it was used to ram cold air onto the supercharger IC... which was mounted on the top of the engine on the R53.

i bought a DDM works cold air intake system last night, so im quite looking forward to that eventually arriving from the states...

i remember reading somewhere before that BMW kept the bonnet scoop to keep the cooper s style... otherwise it would i suppose look a bit cooper ish... however i hate pointless things like that so im glad i know have made it purposeful!

yeah fair point there, and it was part of the original S that they emulated on the R53....makes sense

just would have thought they would have made better use of it...but then manufacturers are always worried about going near the point of over engineering for reliability purposes

the scoop is there on the R56 S to differentiate it from the Cooper/One.

Can you please let us know, what difference it makes, when it eventually arrives and is installed, I'm curious to know and I'm after one aswell.

Thanks!
