Which exhaust to get ??

Hi to all mini owners,

I have been follwoing the threads quite a while now but this is my first post, I got the MCS R56. I have just ordered my DDM works Race CAI yesterday and I cant wait to get it and install it! Read few threads about it and got me more excited knowing that they are a good piece of kit and actually improves the power of the mini with constant cold air

I am also looking to upgrade the stock exhaust but i dont know what to go for, I was thinking alta cat-back but any of you guys got ideas, which one to go for and the benefits?

thanks for reading my post, looking forward to hear from you guys.

The Alta 3" cat-bac was the first mod to my MCS. The 10WHP was nice, but the increased torque and quicker turbo spool up (~300rpm) you notice right now! Sound is an individual thing. I chose it for the deep, mellow growl with no ratty popping and crackling. I believe Alta's is the only 3" system, the others are 2.5".

Congrats on your first post.

The US cars have a different exhaust and cat setup to us.

The restriction in the stock system is the cats in the downpipe. You'll see little if any power gain just by changing the cat back alone.

Personally I would install the Milltek downpipe with highflow cat, or do the GTT precat removal on the stock downpipe and see how you like it. If you wanted more sound then do the catback. Although the factory JCW and tuning kit JCW back boxes are an option too.

Nobody has shown a need for a 3" exhaust unless you plan turbo upgrades later. Indeed some would argue it's too big for the stock turbo.

Hey guys, thanks for the input. I think I am going to go with Alta twin tailpipes as I am not after more sound, I just want a deep growl for now, I see how it goes, will post some videos soon.

Thanks again.

is there an Alta dealer in the UK? or will u have to ship it overseas?

you could look into more local brands, such as miltek, or supersprint.

Personally I think it's a little strange that Alta is the only 3" exhaust out there

if "bigger was better" in this case.. I think the rest of the boys would have followed suit...

just food for thought...

I dont think there is an Alta dealer in UK but there are few places do sell Alta stuff such as, Lohen.co.uk and Minispeed.co.uk, I am not sure if they stock the parts tho..

Always ready for a Mini adventure!!

The JCW tip will not fit on your car (I'm guessing cooper - the base model varies in different countries so it always helps to specify ). The JCW exhaust can be fitted, but as its designed for a turbocharged car, the performance of your car will be affected in a bad way...
