TMC Tuning Box

Has anyone had experience with the TMC Motorsport Tuning Box?

A mate of mine just threw one on his MiTo and is very happy with the results (30hp gain). I had a look on the Abarth forums and it's getting rave reviews. Unfortunately doesn't look like anyone has thrown it on a Cooper S yet.

Unlike a remap this plugs into / hijacks a few sensors in the engine bay. Apparantly 10-15 min job to install.

Quoted gains:
128kw > 160kw
240nm > 280nm

At £270.00 that's great bang for buck!

Any info would be much appreciated!

Hi,

I bought one of these just over a month ago and fitted it on my 2010 Cooper S. I paid £349 inv VAT (TAX) and shipping. I struggled to find enough information on opinions of people who had fitted this to a mini cooper, however i decided that i would go for it considering that the dealer offers a 30 day satisfaction money back guarantee, so i had nothing to lose.

First off, the service has been fantastic! I ordered it in the early afternoon, and it was delivered by 10am the following day. Installation only takes 10-15 minutes, however the instructions provided were in German, which meant that i had to google translate it all! The pictures probably mean that not everyone will need to have step by step instructions in writing, but im a bit of a novice when it comes to upgrading cars, so i spent about 20 minutes decoding the instructions beforehand. Im guessing that the tuning box is made in germany and shipped from ireland, but it would have been nice to have some english instructions!

Anyway, onto the more important bit. The difference for me is night and day, with promises by the dealer of my BHP increase from 184bhp, to 211bhp. You can feel the difference immediately, but the real power comes from when you put your foot down at higher revs. As soon as you hit 4k revs, the car just takes off! It feels like theres a serious amount of power under the hood, which is all due to how the TMC tuning box piggybacks and adjusts the ECU settings.

I deffinitely recommend buying the TMC tuning kit! The difference is huge, and it can be removed and sold on at any time, which is an advantage over getting the engine remapped.

I hope that helps,

Ryan

Hi Richard,

Congratulations on your purchase, you wont be disappointed! I still absolutely love mine

I bought mine directly from TMC, although the instructions were in German for some reason. I'm assuming that TMC hadnt realised this when they shipped it, although it was nothing that a quick 30 minute Google translate session couldn't correct. I have mine somewhere in the garage, its probably under a million boxes after moving house though.

Try emailing info@tmcmotorsport.com and asking them to email you the instructions. Their service is really good, but if you do run into any issues then I can always scan my German ones for you

Good Luck! Let me know if you need anything else.

Ryan

Hi Ryan, I sent an email to TMC and I got a very quick reply they sent over the manual and it was very easy to install. It took me like 10 to 15 minutes. I have attached the manual how to install the race chip tuning box.

After installing it on my JCW it is completely different and it is definitely way faster, actually it is incredible the force it gains with the tuning box. But i have one problem, when reaching over 5500 rpm it seems it is holding a bit and it seems it is stuttering very softly. I guess that the tuning box is not 100% compatible with my JCW. Anyway I took it out because maybe it is not good for the car if it stutters softly above 5500 rpm. Did this also happen to you or what can be the cause of it?? Does the tuning box needs to be reprogrammed or should i return it and get like evolve??

Richard

I fitted a TMC box on my previous Audi A1 1.4 Tfsi and the results were superb. The power setting is adjustable 1 to 10 (preset at 5) and I never went above 7 with great performance. Easy to install and remove without trace.

Are these tuning boxes completely safe to use? Am I right in thinking they are just effectively fooling the ECU into maintaining higher turbo pressure/fuelling? Also, what sort of affect have you noticed on your fuel consumption?
