Check your oil level today!

At work(Mini dealer) there have been a lot of R56 Cooper S coming in for noisy engine.
And all of them are missing 2liter!!!( 4,25l is total amount) of motor oil and NO warning light is flashing. Please check your oil level today. You can lose your warranty for the engine in worst case

You wouldn't believe how many of the American's don't pay attention to such...
There's been several low-oil related failures that the owners think that it's not their responsibility to watch such a vital fluid.

I check and normally top up my oil every 2 weeks. Takes 5 mins but gives you peace of mind.

This is very important when there is 30'km between oil changes. If there is just one liter missing, in theory you can only drive 20-23'km between oil changes because of extra wear. I'm driving a lot of trackdays and change my oil every 5'km just to be sure. When you drive when oil level is low, oil temperature will raise and you could damage the oil causing it to damage the turbo and dense oil pipes
Next time you visit your local Mini dealer allso pick up part nr 20 on this picture, if it not fittet allready

Oil consumption

I own an R56 cooper S and I must say of all the cars I have ever owned (and the list is long!) I have never had a car that uses so much oil. In-between services (which is 20k on a mini as I'm sure you all know) my car is using approx 6-7 litres of oil. The mileage I do I have to check every week and probably top up every other week. To be fair as I often don't buy newer cars I have always religiously checked my oil. When I bought my Mini I was less concerned as it was quite new, low miles and bought from a main dealer. After 3 weeks my engine started sounding a bit rough. Checked the oil and OH MY GOD the dipstick was bone dry! So rushed out bought some oil from Mini and filled it back up again.

Now in my defence... something else I also don't usually do I read the manual for my Mini cover to cover the first week I bought it. (Sad I know) Now in the Mini manual (I am in the UK BTW) it actually states that you should only top your car up with oil when the dashboard light comes on to tell you to do so. I swear to god it says this. Now I thought this was weird... but foolishly I followed the instructions. I can safely say this is b*ll*cks! My light has never come on and my car drinks oil like an alcoholic drinks stella!

I bought an R56 Mini Cooper S with 29k on the clock back in June last year roughly. Love it. However it sounded a bit rough 2nd week and a mechanic went out for a spin with me and said it didnt sound right and he'll get it sorted. Anycase got it back sounded better. I dont drive it much working from home but its now at about 32k miles having done a trip to Glasgow and back from Newcastle. However when I arrived in Glasgow Oil light on and it sounded all of a sudden like a bag of hammers. Garage was right next to me so got some oil topped it up. That was Christmas-New Year. Noticed past week or 2 it sounding slight off again rarely its driven and this evening sounded rough on one of its short journeys it does visiting the olds and just before I got to my driveway the Oil light again. Filled it back up will see how it sounds tomorrow but for the few miles ive done and the oil its going through seems a bit much.

Think I might get it in on warranty and looked at but its very off putting and worrying considering it doesnt do much.

Read about the delete mod, the engine is going to suck in a lot less oil.
