Surging after tune Hey everyone, Got my car tuned about 4 months ago from Evolve. Car is a 2007 Mini Cooper S Euro spec and not US. Current mods is a de-cat and a factory JCW exhaust. I did not really chase them for a resolution as I was busy with my finals so I did not receive much help besides one tune which did not make a difference. I need some help.... I am not trying to defame anybody here, I would just like a resolution to the issue that I am facing. The tune is great and I am happy with it but the surging issue that I have really spoils the whole experience for me. I would much rather not have the tune than have the car unusable in sport mode. After the tune, I'm having surging issues but only when sport mode is on. This will only happen between 2500rpm where partial throttle is applied ~15%. If put the pedal to the floor, surging instantly goes away. This only happens in first and second gear. The surging is quite violent and the car rocks back and forth. Flashed back to the stock tune and this issue was non existant. I have talked to the tuner but they don't seem to know what the issue is and after 4 months, I still haven't found a solution to my problem. They haven't been very helpful in trying to figure out what COULD be the issue as this is an isolated incident and this has never happened before on all the other cars that have the same mods as me with the same tune according to them. This may be true but I would really love to have a car that while is really good in non-sport, be just as satisfying in sport. Can anyone think of anything that I should have a look at? Thanks in advance

Hi I am not to clued up on the gen 2, but from what I understand when you put it in to sports mod it sharpens up the throtal responce and tightens up the steering. No more actual bhp or map. But I may be wrong. Which makes me think my be it could be the turbo bleed off valve not working correctly causing the turbo to surge and stall There also could be a possibility that you high pressure fuel pump is playing up I know there is a warrantee exstention on these on you year car? It may be just on the limit where with the std map is ok remap it just to much. have you had another mods done to your car. The surge could be caused by Bad sensor have you had it plugged in to a diagnostic tool see if there re any faults Anyway sorry I can help much hope this is a start

Thanks for the reply marque. You're right, sport button just changes the throttle map and tightens the steering. I like the steering tightened though, which is one of the main reason why i like sport mode. I've tried reading fault codes buy none have come up. I used evolves reader to do this. What's weird is that this tune is totally fine in non sport, just when sport mode is turned on, I get surging issues in first and second gear with partial throttle. No issues with full throttle. No matter how much throttle I apply in non sport, there are no issues at all so I don't really know what to do. I have never had starting issues with the car. It always starts the first time without any increased duration in cranking. That would be one of the main symptoms of the HPFP failing from what I have heard. With the warranty procedure, I don't see how I could bring it in to the dealer and tell them that the HPFP is failing as I would not be able to replicate the surging without the tune. The de-cat and the factory JCW exhaust are the only two performance mods that I have done. If I get a couple of replies telling me to check my BOV, I will take that apart and maybe in the meantime, find an upgrade or just replace it with a new one. One of the things I tried to ask evolve for was if they were going to release the datalogging software that they said they would release with the evolve-r but I never received a reply. Think this could help with identifying certain factors or conditions that cause the surging but I guess I will just have to play the waiting game. Thanks again marque. Oh and the car has 32000kms on it

Did this occur immediately after your tune? If the surging has become gradual after installign the tune, you may need a diverter valve (if you are talking about boost surge). How much deviation in boost are you recording?

The effect is immediate, if I flash it back to stock its fine, then flash it back to the new tune in sport mode and the surging is there but only under the conditions as described in my other posts. Don't have anything that can record data right now as I thought Evolve would be releasing their datalogging software but I never got a reply in regards to that.
