Hello forum, My 2007 mini cooper s have failed me and I just got it on march 15th... I don't even have my own title yet and it has 41k miles. All within minutes the first sign was that it didn't brake if it was going under 7 mph (11km/h) it would brake about 3-5 seconds later, and if it was a faster speed it would brake. We were 130 (209 km) miles away from home so I figured I would take it to the mechanic as soon as I got there but then it started making flapping noise and when I pulled over the car shut off. The mechanic couldn't find what was wrong with it and they couldn't take out the oil stick and when they did they had to twist it out and then it wouldn't go back in. So something inside the engine have gone terribly wrong. also a big yellow exclamation point and check engine light appeared after it turned off the car still goes on nutural but thats it. Please help any help, in the new york city. So how much is an engine? how much are mini dealership most likely to charge me ? any similar experience at the dealership is welcomed, help me Minions
Heya, is you car still under factory warranty? If so take it to your nearest dealer.
I've never heard of such a failure, sounds like a bit of a strange one. Hope you come right!
Found out it was causes by the timing chain tensioner. And so that went and caused me to get a new engine. and i dont have warranty on the car. A lot of people have this problem and theres a petition to get bmw/mini to do a recall on it because of how many people are experiencing it. Another person took the
To a small claim court and won so i will be doing my investigation. I havent founf out how much a new engine is but im sure its over $1000 dollars
I know one company who does engine reconditioning. Engine Engineering - they did reconditioning of my bmw engine. Send Your engine over, maybe they will find what's wrong.
Hopefully I can shed some light on it for you. I have had a similar situation at 48 k miles over a year ago. Car lost power on motorway and after being towed would not restart. Long story short it was the tensioner which snapped causing severe damage to the engine, resulting in me needing a new engine. As I was out of warranty this was quoted at £6000. After a month long battle with BMW over the tensioner fault, which they clearly know about and wont admit to I got a good result. Luckily the dealers I had it towed to (Derby) were fantastic and battled as hard as i did with BMW. They were able to secure an agreement with BMW goodwill. I recieved a new engine only having to pay the labour incurred in fitting it, which was something like £200 if i remember correctly. If you search my previous posts it should outline in greater detail what the process was that i went through with BMW. If not then dont hesitate to mail me and ill help you as best i can. 1 warning however, It will be a hard battle with BMW but always remember that you are in the right and your tensioner is a common fault that they refuse to acknowledge or recall.
Hope that helps!!!
Alan
Where did you get you clothes?.............. At the Toilet Store? (Anchorman 101)
If you can't get any compensation from the previous owner or BMW, I suggest you look on e-bay. Many of these cars get written off and the mechanical parts are available from breakers. Here are some in the UK: MJR Mini Matt; BMW Mini Spares; Mini Spares UK Ltd; BM Bitz; A1 BM Spares.
