BMW software remap vs ECU chip upgrade

Hi all,

Have an r55 Clubman S needing a tune. There are problems on first/cold start with erratic revs and power availability. Turbo and timing chains have been inspected all ok.

BMW claim that a full remap and upgrade to latest version of software MAY fix the issue at $220 (at least) or I can get a chiptorque ECU reflash at around $900 from a Euro specialist tuner here in Sydney.

BMW's main selling point is that this software update will reprogram all the ECU's in the car, not just the engine ECU - I'm not sure if that's required or if they are just trying to sell me on it.

Alternatively, the ECU reflash gives me near JCW like performance outputs (and hopefully will fix the issue).

Anyone had experience with similar issues? What did you do?

Is there any other electronic aftermarket tune available in Australia?

Flipper there's some guys locally that have put plenty of time into this very question I have an LCi R55 S, and mine has the ecu updates disabled so you need to open the ECU and tune. And there are locals (thankfully) that can do it.

Best thing is to check out mini-mods dot com dot au. In there you may find some stuff, or whack a post in the Modifications section and the guys should pipe up.
