Poor Idle, Irregular Revving, Cutting Out - Mini Cooper 07 non s

I have an 2007 mini cooper - non s.

Recently, when I was driving I would come to a stop and my car would judder and idle would be very low and pick back up again. I would then move and my revs would go wild and drop ridiculously low and back to normal.. also a few times when I stop, I would go to move and look down and my car would be off and I wouldn't of stalled (its early 07 so no stop/start function!!).. this happened a few times, once also when I was driving on the duel carriageway.. very dangerous! only once did the engine management light go on, it went off and never came on again even though this has been over a couple months.

I have had my car checked out at a couple garages and I have had multiple fault codes back -

P0012 – A Camshaft Position Timing Over – Retarded Bank 1
287D – Camshaft timing (bank 1) intake faulty
2891 – Synchronisation of inlet camshaft (bank 1) with crankshaft offset error
2845 – Camshaft control solenoid valve faulty
2870 – Intake camshaft adaption faulty

My car is now booked in to get the timing chain done but with these symptoms I have also noticed on this forum that it could potentially be other things but going by the fault codes it seems to be timing.

Has anyone else's car been similar and has been repaired not doing the timing chain? its a very costly job

thanks!!
