R56 JCW a twin turbo?

I was browsing the web and found this....

"Mini JCW
A hot-hatch Mini, to be the fastest-yet, developed by John Cooper Works, to be built alongside the mainstream Minis at Cowley. It's thought to have a 220-225bhp twin-turbo engine (a version of the single-turbo 1.6, which can be boosted up to 192bhp with the existing JCW tuning kit). Unveiling at the Mini United rally in June is rumoured."

This is under a list of cars coming out in 2007

How many of you think this is true

That makes alot of sense, especially keeping in mind that there is a school of thought that the current twin scroll turbo is closed to maxed out as is; the stage I, while adding significant improvement, isn't an earth shattering jump in performance.

Gabe from Motoringfile.com has indicated he's recently received information that says the new JCW factory R56 MCS will not be available for "several years". Let's hope this is not true.

Bet she's being kidded along. Why wait years for the top o' the range? Nah, Rakey [and he knows ] says present position is an anticipated launch around next March. So - if the suspension is a bit lower, and it gets more bells and whistles, not forgetting a great power surge, it'll look less Fisher-Price and more the bees' knees. Get in the queue, everyone...

Never happen, IMHO. Too much trouble and too risky for MINI to do it.
My fiver says it's all engine managment, turbo back w/ high flo cat, and intake.

May want to go back to re-read that.... I revised my statement when I saw it was being taken the wrong way.

Just reread your edit, so you're saying you didn't say that with any solid evidence to back it up. Gabe you don't seem the sort to just 'spout off', in all your articles you seem a remarkably level headed guy so I'm assuming you are making the assumption that the R56 factory JCW won't be released for 'several years yet' on some sort of information. Care to share it with us?

I'm sorry to seem to coy about this. But I guess the point I want to get across is that I have no concrete information since the article I published a few months ago on MotoringFile: Future JCW Vehicles

And based on that, the stage one is what we're seeing in July. That's the car I'll be personally getting. Hope that helps.

Ordered my MCS on Friday last for September 1st. Asked about the works tuning kit (as we all now know its on its way!). I said, can I order it now, or if available before September, I'll have it.

Was told "I've spoken to mini this morning, and it won't be here this year. It is still being tested!".

If thats the case, then a full JCW car def won't be this year.

Moreover, a twin turbo on a MCS! I'll bet my car that doesnt happen!

...Mad

it will never happen. general consensus on new mini is it would need a new bigger turbo on it to get anything over 210bhp. Can't see the development costs allowing it to happen.

England 'S' WORKS with 220?

IMHO judging by what has been said about the 207 RC (not the GTI which has 175bhp) the RC is also surmised to have about 200-220bhp.
Same engine both parties BMW + PSA working towards the same sort of power output

I reckon BMW will go the root of a larger turbo coupled with increased flow from Intake to Exhaust ie. airfilter, free flow cylinder head, injectors, free flow exhaust manifold (keeping it twin scroll), free flow cat and back box.

Does anyone reckon on a turbo fitted to the R56 being like the Porsche variable vane turbo.... ??? it's only an idea....... expensive but it would be nice .

Claudio, i hope channel 4 is correct as i am craving for the new JCW.

Based on my experince from my current R56 Cooper S the JCW version has to have 4 Wheel drive. The torque steer in my current car is insane and that is only from 250nm of torque!

I think it is a given that the new JCW will have blackend light housings for the front lights like on the Millionth MINI. The body kit will be completly diffrent from the current JCW kit and the air duct on the hood will be used to cool something down. My opinion no facts to back up these claims.

If they wanted to launch the JCW in June we would have seen a couple test cars by now.

MINI, it is a way of life.
