If a JCW car IS in the pipeline rather than the roll-caged Challenge, won't this basically be a Cooper S with all the kit added? To be honest, I would stick with speccing-up a normal S with brake and engine upgrades, because the stiffer Works suspension absolutely ruined the GP (in my opinion). It's no wonder some mags said a Golf GTI would beat a GP across country, due to the better resolved suspension. I would tend to concur to an extent, having had one and been shocked at the 'skippy' way it rode when driven hard.

Owning both a GP and a GTI I would have to disagree, we on the roads in Surrey anyway. The shorter wheelbase on the GP coupled with the firmer ride makes it a much faster cross country car.

Wasn't the GP suspension absolutely idenitical to the Works suspension? The GP just had all the Works stuff fitted i.e. brakes, suspension, engine upgrade (plus a couple of extra bhp etc) I agree that the GP goes round corners like it's on rails, but it's established that longer wheelbase cars generally give a better ride. I just found that my car skipped and hopped across uneven road surfaces and was quite a handful - it's probably true that you can drive other, similarly-powerful cars quicker (maybe even 230Bhp ED30 GTIs, which is the car I was referring to...yes, I know it's much heavier). I don't think we're going to agree though, as you guys are current owners and obviously love your GPs! Fair enough.
