Difficult one..
I think DS looks really good on the R56 (despite the large amount sold was never a fan of the colour on the R53)

However (and I am biased) there is nothing as cool as a black MINI

Having said that I am just starting to spec a works for myself and I won't be going for either....

It's odd, but I think DS looked better on the first gen cars! I like the idea of DS, but it never seems quite right in the flesh. Black, on the other hand, looks really good on a JCW car (but not so hot on some of the other MINI models).

Unless you're thinking of a Clubman. Black *really* doesn't work on the Clubman IMO - it looks too much like a small hearse.

Only another 4-5 months before *I* have to choose. I'd quite like a metallic - they look cleaner for longer, the clearcote is an extra layer of protection, and I worry about how light-fast red paint is. White shows the dirt, red shows the scratches, black is out of the question (due to that hearse thing), I'm unconvinced by DS (this week, at least; my mind changes every couple of weeks), and I remain happy with the Electric Blue on my first gen car - but will it be an option for the first few weeks of Works Clubman production? And after waiting this length of time, I'll be pretty homicidal if I'm not getting one of the very first Works Clubman cars to roll off the track ...

But for a hatch, I'd go for black. Rogan's red & black Works looks grand, but I'm with Washy - black is best.

Washy, did you not only get another new MINI, like, a month ago! And probably the nicest one on the forum as I remember! I think you're mad to go for a JCW!!! Sure your car even has nicer JCW exhausts with the Works logo on them!

No.
My car is over a year old now and I wouldn't be considering changing at all, but my particular example has been a bit of a Friday afternoon jobbie with numerous faults which have never been totally resolved. Based on the fact that apart from one rather rattly Clubman I got leant on one of the many occasions my car was at the dealer every other R56 I have driven has been much better than mine I have decided to take the hit and swap mine for another before it drives me totally nuts.

It has been a close call as I AM still quite tempted not have another MINI at all

Thanks for everybody's views.
Seems to be a split opinion.
I want to wait for the new met black thats out in december, just not sure about all the swirl marks and scratches that black shows.
I am very fussy with my cars and maybe black will cause to much heartache after a year or so.
Thanks again.

wash and clean it properly and you won't get any swirls to worry about

Lightbulb Supaguard Clearcoat

if you do go with the Black, (although personally DS/B wud b my choice); make sure you get it Autoglym (or similar) Protected from new - MINI and professional valeters do it for c. £200 or you can do it yourself - v carefully - for £20 odd

My old man has an all black Audi A3 and I have an R56 SS/B Cooper - both have been done and they still shine like new, are easier to wash and you dont get scratches or swirls as easily

Needs restoring, maintaining every year or so but believe me it's worth it if just one person says "are you the person who owns that lovely shiny balck car" - my old dears had that quite a few times from their friends

I have the PW/B combo... have to say though I love it, I'm tied with the dark grey/ dark grey combo or the same blue (lightening?) as in Picard's photos here. I've seen this blue on the forecourt - looked fantastic.

Either way, the car itself is phenomenal, it just gets better and better.

If I go for the new Midnight black then I'll lose the £750 deposit contribution offered by Mini finance as the car will be ready in January.

The car has to be registered by the 19th of December to qualify for the promotion so it looks like I'll be getting dark silver/black.

Would anyone sacrifice the color you want to save £750?

I'm thinking of speccing the Panaramic roof, what are your thoughts on it?

Many thanks.

Sweet! That's going to be a beautiful car, inside and out. Sat Nav looks fantastic. I held back from going for it but regret it! You're going to have a blast and make everyone horrendously jealous. Get ready to enjoy very big time. Congratulations!

Great Spec But

TV - Waste of time
HiFi - Total waste of time, go after market

I have had a cooper S with all the options you have above so I talk from experience.

If you want to save some money remove full bluetooth, basic is free. Add the MFSW and you will be able to spec Voice Command for free (Providing its a factory JCW). You will lose the arm rest but its very poor anyway and gets in the way more than anything.
