JCW - Should I Pay Up or Not?

Hey guys. Rather than hijacking other threads I thought I would create my own in order to highlight my predicament! I've been to a couple of Sytner dealers in Birmingham and have specced up a JCW. This is:

JCW in Charcoal Grey
Lea Lounge Redwood Red Interior
Chilli Pack with full USB (includes arm rest and MSFW)
Exterior Mirror Pack
Visibility Pack (includes Auto-Dim Interior Mirror and Rain Sensor & Lights on)
Panoramic Sunroof
Chrome Line Interior
Front Seat Heating

The quote for this came to £24,930 and with delivery etc. and TLC it comes to £25,765. I don't want to pay over £24,500 for the car, but am wondering if I am being unrealistic? The dealer won't budge on much of a discount and the most they are offering is the car for £25,525, hence a £500 discount. I've managed to get them to give me £6,500 for my current '04 Cooper (with full Aero Kit and 35,000 miles on the clock), and since the service is due soon they said that I don't have to get it serviced either. I approximate the service will cost me about £200 if I was to have it carried out. Originally they offered me £6,450 for my car on the condition that I had it serviced.

So basically I want a discount of just over £1,200 on the car regardless of how much they give me for my Cooper. Is this too unrealistic and should I lower my sights? I've heard of a couple of people who have managed to get a discount of around this much, but don't know how common this is.

As I said earlier I have been to a couple of Sytner dealers, one has given me the above quote, the other should have got back to me by now but haven't .

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!

I would advise you to shop around.........£25,765 is way too much to pay for a JCW and their not exactly giving you top book for your trade in either.

Ring round some other dealers saying that if they will do the spec you want for the price you want then you will put down a deposit today.

I recently got £1200 off my JCW order, with a similar spec. The total cost should have been £25200 but got it for £24000. hardly a bargain though!

Personally, i would look for a nice used/demo one. I paid £18700 for a £26k car that was 6 months old.

And try other dealers for selling your car. Dick Lovett gave me £500 more than I was offered elsewhere against trading for a JCW.

Try Williams, Manchester or the main dealership in Bristol. I got offered a very good discount with both dealers. Over 2k off a 28k jcw.
The Bristol dealership is really good to deal with and I have just ordered with them.

I got £500 off a pre-launch order so the minimum discount you should get now with all that has gone on n the last 9 months is £1250-1500. shop around - cash is king and sell your old car privately.

Cash is certainly not king now! No trade in and buying on finance is whats wanted - dealers get a commission for selling finance So they want you to go finance rather than cash!

That's the same as what I had heard regarding the cash. The dealers prefer finance as they get commission from this, and even if you want to pay for the car fully by cash they normally ask if you can take out a very small amount of finance to pay for some of the car, which you can then pay off in full in one payment straight away. Obviously the buyer can say no, but the dealers are likely to be more appreciative if this is the case, and possibly offer a (slightly) greater discount on the car.

I know that dealers want to sell finance and want to tie the unwary into expensive and restrictive PCPs etc etc. Unless manufacturer 'paper' is in some way subsidised to promote sales better rates can be achieved elsewhere. Most dealers are on 'credit watch' and need to sell stock even at low margins to maintain cash flow.

Ordered!

Ok I've managed to get my order in today at Benham Wolverhampton. John there was excellent for anybody wishing to purchase a Mini and would strongly recommend him and Benham over Sytner. I got the JCW with the spec mentioned above. The only changes were the colour (dark grey with black roof) and I had the spotlights thrown in as well. I managed to get them to give me £6,750 for my car, and the service on it is due now but I don't have to get that done. They discounted the car down from £25,790 to £25,000 and then gave me the additional £250 for my car which made the deal. Then I got a bit excited and added the spot lights as well!

Am very happy with the purchase and should be taking delivery on September 1st

Yeah delivery is on September 1st. He did say that the car could be ready end of July/beginning of August but I chose to have it September instead. It gives me time to sort out all the finances and get a private number plate. Thanks for all your and other users advice along the way, it helped me barter a lot!
