Anyone else have a rattle, when driving off and slowing down, from the speedo area? Car 4 months old and just come back from the garage, been told they won't do anything about it. Mini have said don't replace the speedo unit. If they said we will charge you nearly 30k, but by the way you will have a rattle in the speedo, I would have said I don't think so.
Anyone else have a speedo rattle or been fobbed off?
It could be a piece of loose dashboard trim, I currently have a few bits of dashboard loose as I'm currently working behind the dash and I get a rattle when I'm driving. It sounds like its coming directly from behind the speedo but it's actually the piece of trim under the steering wheel just above my knees.
Have someone drive with you and as you hear it push down on trim pieces and see what happens, hopefully that's all it'll be.
It is just the dealer had feed back from Mini to suggest that they have other mini's with this problem. They have replaced the speedo and they still have a fault. Not sure if all the speedo's in JCW are the one's that go round the outside of the dial, like mine. It has the sat nav in the centre of the dial.
So not sure what the answer is, but have asked the dealer to deal with Mini uk on this and see what they come back with.
Not sure about JCW speedo's as i dont have one so cant comment. Was jut an idea as when I first heard the rattle I was certain it was coming from behind the speedo and it really concerned me but is just a bit of loose trim echoing.
Either way keep us updated with the outcome and hopefully you get it sorted soon
Just had update from the garage. They say Mini technical department are looking to modify a speedo to replace mine. Will not know until the end of the month if this has worked and then get fitted to the car.
I hope to have a replacement speedo fitted in the next week or so. The garage are waiting for a modified speedo to arrive, which will hopefully fix the rattle issue.
I bought a mini jcw clubman in June this year. There is a low volume rattle like a loose screw rolling around coming from the centre console / speedo at low speeds when driving off/ slowing to a halt. When I reported to the dealer they said they had contacted Mini and the response was that the speedo "does this". Something about the speed indicator arrow. No mention of replacing it and to be honest it's one of those you take your pick. Put up with the rattle or risk someone taking your dash apart and putting it back exactly the same way.
The replacement speedo has worked and no rattle when starting or stopping. I was told the speedo had this rattle and was just something to put up with. Did not agree with this so got them to replace and all ok now.
