Cleaning the JCW exhaust

Hi was thinking of cleaning the exhaust tips on my JCW with factory fit exhaust system. The outside of the tips are a shiny chrome but inside the tips are black and sooty. Was thinking of cleaning the inside of the tips but not sure if they are silver in colour inside or black. Does anyone know or has anyone cleaned the inside back to silver colour ?..

Did this last week. Had to use fine emery cloth and an abrasive paste. I used autosol. The finish was ok. It comes up silver but a week later, it is almost back to how it was.
I will do it again but it is rather futile.

Thanks I have washed the inside with soapy water and its come up loads better. Will get some of that autosol tomorrow and give that a go as quite a few people have said its good stuff. I don't do many miles in the JCW so it might stay silver for a bit anyway.

Finished cleaning the exhausts on my JCW today as they were black and sooty. After 4 hours cleaning they now look like new. Let me know what you think I have posted a picture of before I cleaned them too.

So did you use Cif or autosol?

I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.

I used very fine wire wool and autosol. But the carbon deposits were very very hard to remove as there was 12 months of build up. Wont be allowing it to build up again tho now the work is done.

might have a look at the rest of the system another day hahah. I dont know if that would polish up or not as not sure if its the same as the tips or just bog standard steel tube. Dont think it would be as hard to do as there would not be all the carbon build up along the exhaust like there is at the exhaust exit. I will let you know mate

I dont use my JCW that much either its done 13 miles, and the exhaust tips are black inside and theres no soot present so yes they come black.

As you can see from the pictures they dont come black you will find its just soot. I poped into my local mini dealer where I knew that there was a brand new JCW in the show room so I could have a look and they were silver
