JCW clutch help!!

Hi all,

I posted in general chat last week regarding buying a JCW mini (and selling my focus st). I mentioned I would be looking at a 08-09 plate with 40-50K miles on the clock. However, after more research (which is not always a good thing!!!!) I would like some advice on the clutch and flywheel set up in the JCW. are the clutches nutritiously a weak spot on these cars, especially one with 40K+ miles on the clock ? and what is the price for replacing one ? I have read some horror stories about them failing with hardly any miles on them. Is this just the minority, or should i let this put me off ?!

Thanks Richard.

Depends how its been driven and treated as usual, lots of racing starts etc its going to be a lot more worn than someone driving up and down the motorway knocking up high mileages.
The JCW I suppose lends itself to being hard used for what it is, folk just love to see what it can do, its very easy to wear out the most substantial clutch quickly in theory.
For instance Jeremy Clarkson wore a clutch out on a new Ferrari in one day, because I was at the dealers collecting my new one when they brought that one back, it was toast.
So you cant really say exactly, it will last 40,013.5 miles etc, some might do 30000 some 70000 and more you cant say really, like the clutch on any high performance car.
