Offline | 321 West Palmer Street, Charlotte, NC 28203 which is of off South Mint Street one block south of Carson Blvd. (formerly Independence Blvd.) or if you wish about two blocks south of Ericson Stadium. As to cost I suggest you give Mike Snider at PAS a call, 704.332.9845. Even if the cost for service is the same as the dealers you'd still save the time and the drive to the dealer. |

Offline | Whilst I agree with you as to the free maintenance service that is included with the MINI, I'm personally more comfortable with a shorter oil service interval (must be my age). As long as a factory MINI oil filter and the factory specified oil are used, there should be no detrimental effect on both the engine and vehicle warranty. I do understand that the additional oil service, whether provided by an authorized MINI service center, or an independent garage will be done at a monetary cost to me the owner, but from my point of view this is a small price to pay for peace of mind. Since you are the Warranty Administrator at an authorized MINI servicing center I would appreciate your further input on this. I would also appreciate your input regarding aftermarket intake kits (i.e. BMP) and their affect on vehicle warranty. ps. It's good to know that both dealers and MINI USA monitor these posts. |

| MINI2 Newbie | Janibird, I too am from the "old school" when it comes to oil changes. I change the oil in my BMW 3 times the recommended frequency. The factory states something like this: "With the use of DME control unit, it moniters throttle position, mileage, stop/start frequency and engine load inputs to caculate engine oil service needs. A count down system is used and displayed on the display cluster. Synthetic oil useage is a must for this system." I see many engines going over 100k miles with no problems. As for aftermarket modifications. you do run the risk of voiding your warranty coverage. If a part fails and is deemed directly damaged by the install of that aftermarket part. This determination is done by a certified BMW/MINI Tech. I believe MINI is coming out with an performance upgrade kit and it will not effect the warranty coverage. I hope this helps. Brian |
