United-States Snow Removal

Finally, after many days of waiting for nature to melt the snow or the city to remove the snow (since Saturday to be exact) I've finally felt comfortable enough with the road conditions to put my MINI back out on the highway. Originally coming from the norhtern part of the US, I've become used to snow removal occuring both during and after the storm. But it wasn't until today (4 days after the last drop of precipitation fell) that I finally saw a snow plow with my own eyes here in the city of Durham. Did anyone else out there have similar frustrations with their county/city's response to the weather we've had here in the Carolinas this past week?

You think that is bad, on Davis drive, the Durham section was clean on Tuesday night and at the Wake Co line, it changed to a sheet of ice.

I'm from Raleigh and I have alwasy thought the snow and ice removal here is pathetic. I can't beleive they always wait unti it stops snowing to start plowing. Cary is the only place around here that has close to decent snow removal.

I know that over in Dominion Park in Raleigh that it was Thursday before the plows arrived. I live off of Leesville Road and work in the Park. Mini stayed garaged until late yesterday, I punished the old Toyota Pickup with snow duty.

Fayetteville was actually on the ball for this storm. There wasn't a lot of snow here, but the ice build up was bad. They had the salt trucks and plows out starting Sunday night. The major roads stayed driveable, though it was only one lane on most of them Monday. Still, the MINI stayed in until Thursday to make sure it didn't run into any salt residue.

They are pretty slow here in Richmond too and my parents who live in Durham said pretty much the same things as you guys.

Here in Pennsylvania where we have had a ton of snow, no problems at all with plowing and salting. Would be totally frustrating to wait four days.

I have my fingers crossed that we don't get anymore snow this winter. I have thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and looking out my window and seeing only reminants of the storm that was. I moved south to get away from this type of weather.

Well, in the north we are happy to have snow because otherwise the winter is a totally dreary experience. Days and days of cold rain can get you down. At least the snow adds some light to the picture. Winter is hard. The white snow and blue skies is uplifting imo.

After the summer we just went through here, it proved that days and days of warm rain will get me down too. Actually, though, it's the cold that's my real enemy. If I never saw temps under 50 again in my life, I'd be a happy camper!

Actually I'm originally from PA. I grew up in a small town about 45 min. east of State College and later moved to Johnstown, PA where the winters never seemed to end, the snow never seemed to melt much beyond a gray slush, and the bitter cold wind never seemed to escape the city...until the very cusp of spring. I was just hoping to escape winter altogether by moving south. I guess I just didn't venture south far enough.
