Mini2'ers near San Diego Fires?

Well most of us will have seen the fires that are raging out of Control in the US on TV here in the UK, geography has never been my strong point, but I hope that it isn't effecting too many of our friends from in here.

When I saw it on the news the first thought went your way Jim and Spycar, being the guys I talk to most. But I hope that everyone is ok that is out that way.

So please let us know that you are all ok, and I am sure you are in all our thoughts at the moment.

It's pretty scary. The High School up the street is the local evac point, with people coming from the Scrpps Ranch area of San Diego, where hundreds of homes burned yesterday, and the winds are blowing all over the place, so we're packed and ready to bug out if the winds pick up and blow the fire back west to our area. Bad news: we have five primary vehicles to evac, and only four drivers! - Brooksie might have to be sacrificed, along with all the garage cars - 3 Minis and the Honda S600. Sh*******t. Here's hoping for the best! Wish us luck.

Rob hope it doesn't come to that, but the main thing is to make sure you and your family are safe.

take care

I was out and about for about half an hour yesterday, and my Mini got coated with ash... and I live at the beach!

Hope everyone's safe & sound out there.

Thanks for the thoughts. I live in El Cajon and saw the Crest fire coming over the hill towards the Vons/Walmart shopping area. We live on the other side of the freeway. The winds changed blowing it away from us, but unfortunately toward others. I was helping with evacuations in Alpine/Descanso and was put on a post in Pine Valley for awhile. The winds are settling down out here, but there is still plenty of smoke and ash to deal with.

Our best wishes to our friends in the Scripps/Crest/Ramona areas.

first and last post (for a while anyway)

Well the fire got my parents place in Ramona (family and animals are fine, thats it though). Had a Mini on order to be here in a few weeks, but going to see if the dealer will let me get out of the contract in order to help the family. Everyone in socal stay safe, cars can be replaced family can't.

Well, we got the bad news today. I lost a friend and co-worker, who didn't make it out of the fire. She had little or no chance to escape. I'm pretty bummed. She was a great person, with a fine dry wit, and the most even temperment of anyone I've ever met. A bad day, for sure. Hope everyone else is OK.

Oh my Rob, I'm sorry. What area was she in, and was it the Cedar fire or one of the others?

Thanks, it's been tough. She lived in Alpine, and the Cedar Fire caught her. We'll really miss her, she was special. Hopefully everyone else is gonna be OK. Thanks again for your condolences.

Sorry to hear about your friend, Rob. Glad you're safe though. I guess I missed this thread earlier. Made it through fine here in El Cajon.

Ryan, hope you're OK still. Hang in there.
