Are new shocks necessary when changing springs?

I've been thinking about getting some aftermarket lowering springs for my MCS...probably eibach, but was wondering if it is ok to keep the stock shocks? I heard before that you should upgrade your shocks whenever you get stiffer springs as they will wear out the shocks rather quickly. Does anyone know if i'll be fine with just the springs? Thanks for your help!

I just read an article that says the MCS dampers are stiff enough to handle tighter springs...so I guess that answers my question...

I'd say your original information - I heard before that you should upgrade your shocks whenever you get stiffer springs as they will wear out the shocks rather quickly - is pretty much on the mark. A growing number of people have said that they put on aftermarket springs and had the dampers go pretty soon afterwords. The problem is that it still happens gradually, so you don't really notice it. Until you ride in someone else's MINI with fresher dampers.

Your MINI isn't going to fail miserably, but it will be happier if you get new dampers to go with the new springs.
