JCW brace & Mushrooming?

Just a silly question, but does a JCW brace help prevent mushrooming?

With the new 18's fitted on my car, mushing is starting to worry me and thinking of getting a brace to help prevent it.

Are there any other braces that could prevent this (which cost less than JCW?)

Eg.
Whiteline
M7
BMP/Promini

Thanks

Couldn't find an image of the Whiteline ...

M7 appears to have thickest "cap" on tower (but bar may have fitment issues)

Below (left to right): JCW, M7, ProMini

i think promini have also released one similar to M7.

So i guess the answer for JCW, Whiteline, and Promini (original) is no? and for M7 and promini (new) - yes? based on the thickness of the cap

The M7 used to be silver and is now powder coated black.

Looks like ProMini rebadged the silver M7

The original ProMini does cover the tower just not as thick as the M7.

I couldn't really say how much protection any of them would offer.

Thats what i thought.

With the new promini - they clearly say its supposed to protect against mushrooming with this 'new' brace. But doesnt say anything for their original one.

Are they on M2? perhaps they could shed some light on this?

M7';s brace apparently protects against mushrooming from reading their comments.

Havent read anything about JCW and this issue, and didnt bother looking for whiteline.

ProMini is a MINI2 sponsor but I don't think they frequent the site.

According to their website, the original strut brace is made to be fitted with their air intake. If their billet strut brace is indeed a rebadged M7, their price of $152.95 is bargain when compared to the $199 list price.

You can contact ProMini at sales@promini.com.

Ive got an alta cai , so any brace will require me modding something or another.

152 for that brace is a whopping bargain - Dont think M7 would be too happy tho LOL but who cares, thats the price of competition.

Im going to email them and see what they say about this issue (old vs new & mushrooming).

Cheers.

It's a shame they don't post anymore. Seems since they sold Blue Thunder they don't visit. Casey used to post and his homepage is still promini.com.

That is a good price. Now if they'd clone the USS and make it cheaper I'd go for it.

I wouldn't panic about mushrooming, got a funny feeling it's slightly credible but at the same time (more likely) it's a sales pitch.

To be fair there was some discussion of mushrooming quite a while before anybody started selling products based around it.

im not the best person when it comes to explaining these things but here it goes:

mushrooming - when u hit a bad pothole, the front struts go up and dent the housing where the strut braces fit on (pushes it out). Result is that u dont have a flat surface anymore (looks like a mushroom). I think its more of an issue for those with 18's rims than 17's rims, but hey if u hit a pothole bad enough it doesnt matter i think?

Yep.
Lowered cars have the issue as well. Stiffer springs and less travell causing higher loads. These loads bulge the mounting surface.

Just get the M7 Pete, they claimed to solve this issue with their plate looking thing while the JCW doesn't have that plate struture to prevent mushrooming. I reckon the ultimate fix would be some of those huuuuge camber plates, like the RDR..

You could just get the M7 strut tower reinforcement plates ... cheaper and you don't have to hack up the heat shield on your Alta intake

I went with the plates. So far so good!

I didn't want the fit issues that most people who have an 05 are having. BTW, M7 has the very best customer relations!!!!

"So," I said after I'd had enough, "you've ruined it".
