Mushroom Strut Tower

My cooper took a massive blow to the offside front wheel..so bad in fact it broke the alloy.

I read recently that the tower can "Mushroom" so i had a look and yes it was clear to see that the tower has mushroomed.

please note it was not me that did this to the car but the previous owner.

Is this mushroom effect going to cause many long term problems (the tracking was out but has since been corrected) and can it be corrected/flattened?

Sam

Anything made of metal can be fixed or put right, given enough skill. It will take some serious workmanship but yes, the problem can be corrected.

I've seen some carefull application of a hammer and piece of wood used to correct the problem then a set of strut tower plates to help prvent it from happenning again.

Appaently depending on the severity of it there can be a variety of issues including, alignment, tracking , tire wear and the inability to fit a strut tower brace should you so desire. There was a lot of discussion about this on NAM. Here is one of a few of the threads.

Cheers people...

I have seen the protection plates spoken about above sold by mini mania in wales... i think i need to get this done at some point..

i've spent to much getting this car fixed as the previous 2 owners abused it terribly...
