| MINI2 Regular | KW Variant 2 experiences? Anyone have KW Variant 2 installed on their S ? It's a pain trying to choose the right kit. I'm looking to stiff the car just a bit, and lowering it quite much. But I dont want the ride quality to suffer too much. I've read some articles that KW has some quality issues, anyone have anything negative to say? Kelleners has a modified version of the variant2, their base setting is slightly softer in the dampers then the standard. It sounds good because I've heard that the variant2 can be quite rough. Any experiences of the standard Variant 2? |

Offline | Hi I have used the KW V.2 for the past 2 months. It definitely is not rough, if anything at all its actually quite soft depending on how hard the dampers are set. Ride comfort, Roadholding and handling has a better feel to it. The car now glides over undulations rather than hop over it. One thing I need to sort out is the rear float when fast road driving through long sweeping curves. Im not sure what the problem is or how to solve this yet, either the damper setting is not right or I need a thicker rear a-roll bar to tie the end down. This however I doubt is due to the KW. Any feedback on this issue from other forum members would be appreciated. Generally Im well pleased with this kit. I will be trying out the PSS9 in the near future and if I remember to will give some opinions on this when I do. If you have any specific questions please do ask. Best Regards |

| MINI2 Regular | Thanks for your comments. How much have you dropped the car and how hard have you set up the dampers for daily use? Is it hard to get the same settings to all four dampers? I would probably go for PSS9 myself but it's too expensive compared to kw v2. |

Offline | Hi The car is sitting frt: 325mm fender to centre hub, rear: 315 fender to centre hub. Frt Damper: 1 1/2 turns soft to hard, Rear: 1 turn soft to hard, after trying; 3/4 soft to hard and 1/4 soft to hard. Car is not corner balanced. For me its a decent setting but am going for slightly stiffer settings as I still find it a tad too soft for fast road use. I have tried the PSS9 briefly in an MCSA and am surprised its not as hard as many people have commented it to be but please bear in mind this is based on my perception of comfort, which is not much as I use this car mainly for weekend blasts. It rides well and I believe reacts slightly better than the KW V2 due to the fact that gas filled dampers reacts quicker than oil filled dampers. That notwithstanding I believe the KW's are very good value for money and enhances handling + roadholding. Contrary to what some people's opinion maybe, to quote what someone has said: 95% of the time coilover kits are an overkill, for me its money well spent getting a decent coilover kit like the KW. I qualify my statements as my personal opinion and not as an expert. Cue Andrey. |

| New Mini Specialists | Thats funny guys..... ![]() I think that "harshness" of suspension is a very personal thing, it is based on your perceptions and the cars that you have driven in the past. I personally found my S handled well, but was quite jumpy and uncontrolled when changing direction fast. We then got some coilovers and it was much more controlled, the bounce desapeared and i felt a lot more confident in the corners. I dont think it got much harsher than standard as it is a fairly firm car to begin with. It is going to sound like a blatant plug form me (but its not ) we havent had any problems with quality what so ever, no return no complaints - hence that shouldnt be an issue for you.Andrey |

Offline | How easy is it to adjust the height of the KW Variant 2s? Sounds like the damper settings are very simple, but not sure about height? I take the car on track, but also onto some pretty poor single track roads over the moors, so being able to easily adjust between the two would be very handy. |

Offline | Height adj. is not hard but will cause alignment differences, more in the rear than front but this is still not something you want to be doing unless you align the car every time you change the height. Find a good compromise height, probably 1" lower than stock, and do your track tuning with shock rebound setings and swaybars. 2001 & 2002 SCCA, STS Pro Solo National Champion. 2003 SCCA, Solo2 Nationals 8th, co-driver (Courtney) 2nd in 03 & 04 2003 JCW 210, London Stainless Headers, custom cat back with 5" SuperTrapp, 15x7.5 SSR's and 16x8 ce28n's, Quaife, KW Comp 2 Ways |
