JCW Strut Brace on a Cooper

Everyone seems to have a different answer for this one!

I phoned JCW, and they said the strut brace WILL fit on a Cooper ('03) without any need to modify the bonnet lining or battery cover etc. - he says it's a tight fit, but they've done a few in the past without problems.

However, the part is listed as "Cooper S only" when I tried to order it, and it seems everyone you ask has a different opinion!

So, will the JCW Strut Brace 100% fit on my 2003 Cooper, without any modifications or problems?

Thanks

Not sure on a definate answer to this, but I do know that someone on here 'Reedy' was down in the group buy to get one then pulled out cause it wasn't as easy to fit as first claimed

He's got a ONE but id imagine it's the same under the bonnet as a Cooper, maybe check with him see why he pulled out

Cheers, I'll PM Reedy.

Not sure why JCW said they've fitted a few and it's ok though :|

Jon: did you have to remove it for servicing etc., and did you just bolt it straight on or did you do the "raise wheel" to get required tension etc. as in the above thread like JCW did??

Also, is it worth it?

bolt it straight on... no never removed it for services.. no need..

and i dont see the point in raising the wheels for the tension.. as it will be the same distance between the two mounting points if your wheels are up or down..

Have one on my Cooper since last year and fitted at JCG
It fits perfectly over the battery cover and slightly touches the bonnet: you 'll only notice two small prints in the insulation ... . Some guys seem to suffer from a "lifted bonnet" and severe stress on the hinges when closed. Don 't know what they did do wrong

Some close ups with battery cover & air filter tube (from soundkit):

The presumption when installing a strut brace is that there is flex in the chassis and distance between the mounting points does change (such as when a wheel is up). It is the strut brace that is supposed to keep the distance between the mounting points the same.

Great pics!

Lohen will be fitting it for me...I'm hoping it'll come out without any problems with the bonnet and battery cover, may phone JCW before I go for some "tips" for them
