Offline | Painting springs? Odd question I know, but I'm considering getting some KW v2 coilovers on my Works, but they're yellow/purple, and my wheels will show the springs quite a lot... So I want to paint the springs, probably red. Lohen said they'll do it, and put a lacquer on them, but they can't guarantee that the paint won't start flaking off as the springs move etc. What does anyone think - what sort of paint should they be using so that it stays a good finish for a long time?? ![]() |

Offline | My feeling is that ordinary paint will crack and fall off as the springs move around. Why not look into plastikote, you just dip the springs in and let them drain and dry. I believe there is also a spray on range available from the likes of Focus and B&Q DIY outlets. ![]() |

Offline | PmP: I guess you're right, just trying to maintain the all-black/hint of red look as much as poss, but it's looking like most people think the paint won't stick anyway. So I guess it's keep the KWs yellow/purple, or get another type! ![]() |

Offline | Yep - its a plastic cover on the metal spring. Waste of time painting them - Yellow or dark Purple will look cool on your black car anyway - will compliment the red accents you already have MY05 MINI COOPER S - DS/B - GTT OPTIMISED- THANKS FOR THE RIDE - ENTER THE R56 JCW |

| Beer Society President... | We can source alternative colour springs for KW's if you are really concerned about it. I would point out though that within about 500 miles on UK roads you're unlikely to be able to see the spring colour anyway! Which V. are you going for? I would thoroughly recommend the inox. line kit if you can justify the extra as the piece of mind over corrosion is nice. We are also now doing coilover 'boots' which are jackets to sleeve the coilover and protect the threads and springs. They would fit over the coilover and you wouldn't be able to see the spring anyway with this. These are now in the final stages of production and the launch should be due in November/December time. These can be fitted once the coilover is inplace. PM me for more info on those if you want it ![]() |
