Koni FSD Failures

My '05 S has now suffered it's second failure with Koni FSD's. The right rear has died and the car clunks horribly. The first failure came at 9 months (also the right rear) and the replacement has lasted less than three.

Koni replaced the first set (although I had to pay to have them installed) and I'm waiting to hear back about this second failure.

Should I give up on them or try something new? My driving is primarily city and I am looking for something to soften the ride somewhat.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info. The first I've heard of failures. Please keep us posted... I've had mine on for a few months and absolutely love 'em.

Never heard back from Koni as to the source of the failure. I just assumed that every once in a while things break, but now that I've had two bad units....

Problem solved - mounting bolts at the top of the shock had come loose - just enough to bounce around.

My driver's side front is at Koni NA for evaluation; it was making knocking noise and damping had deteriorated. The strut nut was tight as well as all suspension and chassis fasteners; no fluid evacuation to indicate failure. The "knock" could be repeated off the vehicle.

I have my FSD's for about a month and so far i absolutely love them eventhough i think that the car has lost a bit of it's sharpness at extreme conditions..
But since my wife is pregnant at her 7th month i don't care that much for this..
It really does a magnificent job and i'm happy with them!

Hope they won't break down though..

happy customer

Just as another data point, I'm very happy FSD customer with no problems after a year and about 16000 miles.

I heard there's a problem inside the shock when you lower the car more than 30mm?
Is yours lowered at all?

In my case it was split between stock and JCW springs, so it was never lower than a half inch.

Let’s get some perspective, struts fail no matter who makes them, what technology they employ, or how much they cost. Users of high end struts expect to do a rebuild after repeated competition use. Because this is newer technology it receives more attention; no one is surprised when a stock Delphi strut fails (BTW, I have one) and it usually doesn’t get any lip service. There are legions of FSD users on stock height and lowered vehicles without failures. I posted because this thread was about a similar symptom “knocking”; not to fuel any hysteria.

I mean regular street use..
But there is a difference here..
In Greece where i live streets are worse than fields!!!

Anyway tha fact is that in extreme road use conditions i feel that it has lost a bit of its super sharpness!

It looks a bit "loose"...

But i love it anyway, it's gonna always be me secret love!
