Hopefully this will work. Link below to some threads on mushrooming. Mushrooming is caused by badly pot holed roads and uneven surfaces.

Should be of some help to you.

Strut mushrooming has nothing to do with strut braces. Mushrooming is caused by the suspension strut ramming into the bodywork (where it's fixed) as you hit pot holes etc. A bit like happens if I punch the filing cabinet I'm sat next too, you end up with a bulge in the other side of the panel. This picture is the best I could find. Basically the strut is trying to burst through the bodywork and causes deformation. A strut brace will not stop this occurring.

Sorry for the silly analogy but I couldn't think of anything better.

again (like the water and deep puddle thread) surely there should be a fix for this, apart from a hammer and a piece of wood, or at least a recall

Apparently mushrooming is not just a "MINI problem" it happens on other cars, so while there may not be a recall, you can be assured that we're not the only ones suffering the issue.

This thread, just a bit down the page might be useful too.
http://www.mini2.com/forum/wheels-ty...shrooming.html

The other issue you might have is that your bonnet might not close as it did before. There are a few fixes including carefully wetting the bonnet liner to assist it reforming to the shape of the brace, or removing bonnet liner and carefully removing some of the foam from liner from the affected areas behind so that you can reassemble the liner without it looking altered, or the easiest option is to just leave it be.

Here's some photos of my brace, including a protruding bonnet image...

Having just fitted my GTT upper strut brace in addition to the omp lower brace I can not recomend getting braces highly enough, they have made a great improvement to my MCSC

I went to my local dealership and talked to one of the mechanics about strut braces for my MCS. He said they are a waste of money and you wouldn't notice any difference.. Only worth buying if you wanted some nice shiny metal across your engine bay.
