Cooper S handling with Bilstein PSS

Yet another thread about Coilovers... i know

I'm seriously looking at getting some Bilstein PSS coilovers fitted, I just wanted to know in what ways they improve the handling... I know they do make a really positive difference to the handling, but in what way?

Is it just a genral increae overall, or do they eliminate some negative factors of the MCS characteristics.. i.e. slight body roll etc.

At the moment I dont often drive my MCS hard, but when I do I find the MCS handling really predicable and easy to drive hard round corners etc.

I'm just worried that the coilovers will change this, even though they might make the car handle alot better, I still want it to be as predictable as it currently is. Reason for this is that I've only been driving for 2 years, even though I think I'm better than most my age I'm still no way experienced than alot of people on here!

Suggestions / advice?

George

belive you have all the GTT strut brace on your car already, would not bother with shocks unless you regularly track yhe car, will not notice any real benifit on the road, use the money more wisely

if you want to get better shocks but you don't track the car often, consider the JCW shocks. I have them and I'm very satisfied of the car response.

Yeah..If u r not going to track often, dont waste ur money on coilovers. But instead get strut brace, thicker rear sway bar (eliminate understeer and reduce bodyroll) and a set of good high performance tyres and this will make a lot of difference already for hard street driving.

I dont think mcs has a big issue with bodyroll, stock suspension is pretty firm. But if u do end up tracking more im sure coilovers would make a hell lot of a difference. Stripping stuff out of the car like the back seats and carpet would make a difference too, plus its free ^^

Not sure how many who have posted have experience themselves.

But having been in a car with the same setup as mine (18" SUperleggeras) JCW Brace and Eibach Front+Rear Anti Roll bars) except with KW V2 coilovers (instead of eibach lowering springs) I'd say they're a big improvement for handling, even for the road. But then on his car it was slammed as far as it would go, and I have 8mm Spacers (for the brakes) and the OMP lower brace that he never had.

I'm still not sure what to go for myself though. Can't decide to go for full track KW V3's, or just get the PSS's. Lohen say if I'm not tracking it to go with the KW V1's.

Have you had experience of the V1's, not found any feedback on them yet.

the only other thing i keep being told is the springs will end up shagging your standard shocks sooner.

i was looking at Coilovers but the lower end as i doubt i will track it much. jsut want to drop it properly

Yeah, shorter springs on normal shocks will end their life much sooner. As for the V1...I haven't tried them however from what I know they should be good enough for fast road use, and occasional track day. If you're going to track the car more often then PSS are a good choice, without going to the V3 that might be even too much, as well as the PSS9.
