What would be the best make of lowering springs to get for 18" wheels??

And how much would be best to lower the car with 18" wheels??

From what i have gathered Eibech may be better but im not sure.

i have 18" konig unknowns and before i lowered my car i did alot of research. i found that eibachs were the most common but i opt for H&R springs which lower by 35mm. From what i have read if you lower the car by more than 40mm then you will need to replace the shocks aswell. The H&R springs are amazing- the handling is way better but the ride quality is rough- but i dont mind. Its up to you my firend.

And i also have another question. Has it effected your MOT or insurance? im worried about MOT.

Keep in mind too, that the lower you go, the more trouble you'll have with speed humps and kerbs. I think I gathered you're from round the North Down area, as I am, so just a heads up. I've got the Works suspension on my S which has the R105s, and I have to take some of the bumps (especially round Bloomfields!) very slowly

lol your exactly right. I am well aware of the kerbs, speedbumps etc. Especially the speedbump/zebra crossing at mcdonalds in bloomfields. Ballyholme as well is a pain occasionally and that is on stock springs!!!

Ive just lowered mine with the Eibach upto 40mm pro-kit springs.
Ive got R95 Jcw alloys on also.

Has changed the feel of the car totally. Ride comfort hasnt changed that much, very very slight i would say, but i drive 95% motorway to and from work.

Yup, that one at McDonald's is awful. People think I'm being really good and stopping for every sinner crossing at the crossing, but it's because I have to virtually stop to get over the blasted thing!

i have to bumps slowly due to front bumper catching and its not even lower especially round Seacliff Road and other speed bumps.

yeah you need to be really careful going over bumps but it sounds like you will be careful. theres no rubbing what so ever and i drive from glasgow to aberdeen and back ever week with 4 people in the car. Most people have lowered theirs with 30mm springs but i opted for 35mm springs as it looks better- sorry no pics as all pics are on my comp in glasgow and i'm in aberdeen just now. no problems with MOT or insurance. Insurnace did not go up at all- all i had to pay for was o get a new cover not sent out to me. Go H&R my friend!!!!

JP on here had a Mini One on same rims in 18" with eibach springs.

Unless you want to go ridiculously low I wouldnt look at cheaper brands than eibach, you get what you pay for so to speak. 30-35mm lower, which is about an inch any lower and rims disappear into the arches which so isnt a good look.

Shouldnt be any rubbing issues if you've the correct size tyre on and the correct offset of wheel.

Have coilovers in the S with 18" wheels in the summer and its a real pain in the ass when it comes to negotiating steep gradients and speed bumps.

18's help with ground clearance a bit but they certainly dont improve the ride on bumpy Co. Down roads.

Also wont affect your MOT, mines going through in a couple of weeks. I would totally check with insurance, didnt increase mine but would be awful if something happened and they wouldnt pay out cause the springs werent declared.

oh sorry i didnt explain. Everything i do will be declared to the insurance company of course i just wondered if it effects it. Dont really mind if it does a bit.

So final question, all you have to answer is yes/no.
Will 18's and eibechs work ok and not look bad???

Oh I'm not giving off about not declaring, just saying its best to, didnt affect my premium, but it may affect it a little depending who you are with, some companies will just say no to certain modifications tho.

The offset is 45mm if that helps.

Should be ok, Jp's were same offset as far as im aware. Small enough offset that they shouldnt rub on the inside of the wheel.


My 18's are ET52 with 205/40/18 tyres and theres no issues.

My 17's are ET 48 with 205/45/17 and no issues. But with a 5mm spacer, they are effectively ET43 and I get a tiny amount of rubbing on the outer edge of the front plastic wheel arch liner.

Should be ok, if need be the arch liner can be trimmed away a little, and anyhow think the coilovers sit a bit lower than the eibach springs at the front so you should be grand.

thanks for all your replies. I ordered them today so they will be fitted two sats away as the guy who owns the shop is bringing a mechanic in to do some work and he is going to fit them for about half price. The only reason he is is because i spent £810 on wheels from him lol

well i live in ballywalter, near greyabbey. So the roads are really bad down where i live. not so much for holes, just general bumpness.

I mean atm with the 18's the ride is a bit rough but does not ruin it.
Im never home anyway so it shouldnt be a problem.

And actually as you mentioned about mc'ds i went over that ramp today with my friend in the car and there was about an inch gap between the front of the car and the ramp.

We shall see lol, i will test it there on sat.
