| MINI2 Regular | Need new springs/shocks after 23k?? Have detected a strange noise coming from rear when travelling over largish bumps, esp speed bumps. Thought it was an interior trim/plastic rubbing sound. Anyhow, took it into minidesign as have found them very useful in past and was told suspension at rear could do with changing as springs are very squeeky. He greased them up and noise dissappeared but has since returned after about a month. Thought these would have well exceeded 23k. Have SS+ setup on my JCW MCS. Anyhow, if do need replacing, intend to go down the KONI FSD route and just replace the springs as standard. ANy ideas on cost of just springs for SS+??? ![]() Cheers |

Offline | Wow 23k! I have done 60k on my orginal SS+ shocks in my r53 S. The springs were replaced for KW units at 25k and have not had any issues. Its the bushes that are getting worn on mine, the springs and shocks look in really good knick |

Offline | At 60000 miles the standard shocks will be worn -its just that you cannot see or hear anything a lot depends on the roads that you drive on ,rough roads ;the shocks may for example compress 10 or 20 times a mile ---multiply by 60000 and they have compressed 1.2 million times!!!! -add shock loading(excuse the pun) if bushes worn-------------they will wear better roads and perhaps less salt or extremes of temperature and shocks last longer it is very rare for a set to go past 100000 miles without loss of efficiency -still owners do not recognise it!! Shocks are probably the least maintained of the cars equipment ,mostly due owners not realising that the are indeed worn ------ball park 7-10% loss per annum It is one reason that owners who fit say FSD shocks comment on the huge difference firstly they are a good system and secondly the original shocks were Knackered ,so you regain the loss of performance of the originals Some aftermarket shock systems offer a lifetime warranty(not many) -which is one reason they are more expensive |

Offline | Sorry I should have expressed my meaning better (I meant that as yet they feel reasonable still, and they are not leaking to the eye) after 60k. Obviously if they were replaced it would be better....what I was trying to express is that after 60k mine still appear in good nick, so if maxdudes shocks are gone after 25k then I'm surprised. |

Offline | With the roads I drive every day if mine made it to 50K then id be amazed. Same with the bushes. Atleast 30-40 travels per mile easily.... Our roads are total rubbish wih holes everywhere, dips, massive valleys across the road thanks to cable companies and sunken drain covers. So much punishment ![]() |

Offline | Some roads are truly shocking - especially after heavy rainfall and floods we seem to have a annual road repair budget of about £4 .90 ,all spent on the MI near luton ,should be finished by the year 2525 !! Ive seen some real alloy wheel wrecking holes recently, it must cost more in car repairs and wear ,than it cost to re-lay the roads especially as the mandatory speed camera at roadworks makes more than Microsoft -discuss |
