Im sure the stig did it in 1.20 something in a diesel astra in the damp?

Also which make/ type of stop watch is allowed as the offical clock? I would hate to beat the time only to find out I was using the wrong timing gear! and it was a full moon.

Im tempted to have a bash at the 1.18 time myself!

Back on the suspension theme, I have tried all sorts from springs to KW propper challenge coilovers, but im running back on stock at present........but I can feel some coilovers coming on!

But looking at the Cross and the Bilsteins the prices are way different when you add on camber plates?

I'll strap the performance box to the car as it will create a lap in real time showing corner speeds etc and it will time stamp it but i'll get the fastest lap filmed also for verification and timed on the start finish line using a good ole stopwatch.

Roll on a nice cold day at Castle Combe. First things first though the car gets treated to a head, cam, injectors, remap, oil sump baffle, diff, clutch and R888's which will start being added to the car from next Sat. That lot should give me a fighting chance. Then its a case of making it lighter (helium in the tyres ) and wacking in some harnesses and she'll be good to go for the GTT Challenge as I'm now calling it.

It's going to be an awesome few months and big thanks to Roland for handing down the gauntlet as it helps to have some healthy competition thrown into the mix. He's set a hard time to beat and its a good challenge for any car but I'm confident that the cross suspension will help me win that £500.

Stig in the Astra diesel was 1min 34 or 38 sec. I remmember thinking how slow everyone was including the stig on that challenge. (cappy old seventies supercars).

1min 35 seconds in the Vaxhall Astra diesel which does make Rolands 1 minute 18 hard to beat!

I believe this Nova has run a best of 1.21 on R888 195 50 15

Its quite amazing how slow he has to go when he's following others.

Lee,

There's a track day at Castle Combe on the 19th May, run by an organisation called 'Track Masters'. It during the week, so you'll only get proper enthusiasts taking part - no boy racers to get in the way or cause trouble!!!

Scooby's, Evo's, Westfields, Bmw's, etc are on the list I was sent - nothing you couldn't handle....

Cost is £165 per car for the day, 15 minute sessions with a maximum of 12 cars on the track at anyone time. You can also take advantage of free tuition if you so wish, like the advert says 'you can never stop learning'.

Track Masters.co.uk

Now your cars more reliable with those new pistons, it'll be great if you could make this event

Oh one more thing ,I forgot my car has not/did not even have PSS9's on the front , but the much cheaper PSS !!
We fitted these over a year ago ,and never got round to refitting the PSS9's .
What reminded me was we fitted a set of PSS yesterday. (no braces, runflats) crikey does that car ihandle well now. No crashing ,but solid and very confidence inspiring. TBH these get my vote over PSS9 as they are 95% as good in the real world and much cheaper. Ok no damoing adjustment but most people wouldnt know how to achieve the best settins anyway. And out iof the box they are simply spot on.
I would not use anything else other than Pss/Pss9 on my cars. The last 4 out of 5 cars Ive had I fitted them.

ps You certainly disapeared backwards in a big way every time I floored my car on the Top Gear track!

Roland, what are you implying? first of all my car has standard shocks with lowering springs, your car has uprated suspension etc, your cars is completely gutted out inside, my car has all its interior, you were the only one in your car, I had my brother sat next to me and you have more power, I wasn't flat out because most of the time I was behind you. Personally I'm not sure what your comments have to do with this thread - but it was nice to see you that day

What were you implying with Lees car? it was reliable even as it was .
i was pulling your leg ,but to be correct on the facts my car is certainly far from 'fully gutted out inside'. all the dashboard (inc stereo) , centre console etc is still there ditto all the panels bar the front door cards. Yes its lighter than standard but I reckon if steve got his hands on it could lose another 50-75kg easily. 1320s car is 'properly gutted.'
I was refering to the straights though , I thought with 250bhp you would stay closer than you did, like you say maybe you werent trying

Even if you achieved say 1min 22sec I'd be impressed...thats not hanging around . To get 1 minute 18 is alot harder (and faster ) though.believe me.

Roland what did your old 272bhp engine do Castle Coombe in? was it 1.20?

So thats the first 4 replies discussing Cross Coilovers

RMW may of been aggresive with his post Roland but no more so than yourself on countless occasions in the past when defending products you recommend Its your posts in the past that, like dlpruk, have resulted in me never buying anything off of you. The last time I was considering anything was brakes. I went elsewhere. Also went elsewhere when buying your braces

MCS_JCW: If it was my money I'd go for the cross coilovers out of the 2. Just read up on NAM.

Personally think I'll go with the cheaper M7 as not really into spending that kind of money. They have 40mm whatevers at the front (not 100% sure about rear).
