DIY Lowering MCSC?

Thinking about lowering my cooper s convertible by 20mm. Can I use normal S springs or do I need special ones to account for the extra weight of the convertible?

Anybody done this and have any advice?

Thanks.

i suggest jcw or ss+ spring both meant to lower by 10mm,
eibach do a 20mm model but you may well overshoot slightly based on my heavy mcs with sunroof..
anything else will defo be more, so go coil overs for you own adjustment if cash is no object

Cut the window screen surround and get a smaller windowscreen, so its a low rider. Or Probably eibach springs, depending on budget you could for coilovers

I should check my messages before I post them... that should have read can I use the normal lowering springs e.g. eibach or would the extra weight be too much. Not sure but thought I read that convertible springs were different from tin top springs??

Can anyone confirm? And if anyone has used eibachs it would be good to hear your experiences.

Cheers.

Slightly different question then...

Which manufacturers springs lower the least?? Been looking on NAM at threads mentioning H-Sport and H&R, but not sure if they are available in UK. As you can see I'm running quite high on standard springs, just want to lose some of that air!

Does anybody have the eibach part number for the 20mm lowering springs?

Don't know the part number but they sell them here

As for ride comfort there ain't much but thats with runflats and i'm riding on 16's so would think the 18's are even harsher.

Got some Eibach's on the way from Minisport... gonna fit them and try them out. If they are too harsh i'll have to go back to the drawing board - perhaps re-think the wheels and tyres

My car was about the height of yours when I put my 18's on. Im on 18x7.5 with a 215x35 tyre.

i got the eibech springs that were meant to drop by 30-40mm and it has dropped by about 43/44 mm lol The arch is just above the top of the tyres and I love it. The rider IMO is fine, i love the ride better than what it was. Obviously harsher but on nice roads it is perfect.

Cheers D, i have the springs in my garage now - could fit them at the weekend, but to be honest i'm a little apprehensive. Worried about ride height with Aero Kit and lots of speed bumps on my daily journey to work. Also not sure I could handle anything harsher. Still weighing up option of Koni FSDs with or without Eibach's.

Cheers for the info though.

I deal with it and i live in the countryside with bad roads.

Some people would defo say it is too hard tho.

Speed bumps are ok for me, well i take them slow like 2/3mph on some and i still scrape the little bit underneath.
And the other day i scraped on a dip on the road somehow!!! My friends said it looked like there was like 1cm gap between the bumper and the road. Would look mint like that but not practical lol

I lowered my MSCS last summer, Eibachs and Koni FSDs. They have lowered the car a fair amount, particularly at the rear. The ride isn't too harsh apart from poor roads, I don't use the car as my daily drive anymore so it's difficult to say whether it's liveable for every day driving, but I don't think it's much worse than standard.

It does catch a little on speed bumps but only the plastic 'lip' at the front, nothing too serious. I have had the GTT lower strutbrace fitted as well and that does bottom out very occasionally on very rough roads

Overall I've been very pleased with them, combined with the GTT braces the handling is now excellent, better than most hard tops I would say

Some quick pictures I took last year, I have some better ones but can't access them at work

They're for sale... made my mind up to wait and get coilovers or for FSDs to be supplied with matched springs...

See classifieds.

Why not get the FSD's to go with the eibachs you already have to save you the money? Lohen say the Eibachs are fine for the FSD's?

Coilovers would be your best bet though if you don't want to lower it to much.

I'm just worried that the springs will take the heavy old girl a bit too low and the great FSDs will be cancelled out by the harsh springs. I'm going to save up for the coilovers - but which ones? Cross, Bilstein, something a little lower down the price range. Can't have poor damping as my windows are rattling around on the 18's with non-runflats!! Might have to ditch the 18's at this rate - but I love them!
