Cooper suspension, suppose to be this hard?

Hi all,

I have just bought a 06 Mini Cooper after upgrading from a One just over a week ago. The ride within the car is very hard, even more so than the One I had previously. Even nook and cranny in the road is found by my car (not making it uncomfortable). Is the Cooper a harsher ride, it doesnt have sports suspension, however the wheels are 16" now rather than 15's would this be the main reason. Can anyone help????

Thanks

16" wheels come with run flat tires which have stiffer sidewalls than the conventional tires fitted to 15" wheels, and as a result the ride harsher will be harsher.

I can second that!!! We always find that the runflat tyre gives a very harsh ride and that you can find an improvement by moving to a good performance tyre. They are also cheaper to replace.

Failing that you can look at upgrading a few things on the suspension side of things (mostly dampers) that will improve the ride quality. Hope this helps.

I changed my runflats to normal tyres 3 weeks ago. The difference is unbelievable. The ride on my 17 inch runflats was way harsher than the current setup I have now which is 18 inch Yokohamo Paradas. You feel the difference straight away!

LOL. You should have test-driven the 'original' (up-to 2003) SS+ on a Cooper. That WAS really sporty, and really made for a go-cart ride. Shame they toned it down.

The ride quality does change massively depending upon wheel size.
