Question Rear Sway Bar

Not too much talk over here about changing out the rear sway bar. On MCO there is more talk, and a bigger bar gets rid of the understeer problems with the MCS.

Just curious what some of the thoughts over here are about replacing the rear sway bar.

Mini Motorsport sells a 19mm bar with two adjustments, up from the stock diameter of 16mm. RDR sells a 7/8" bar, (22mm if my math is correct)with three adjustments.

Cheers

Chilli Red over Chilli Red Cooper S, all options but Nav, 2 piece 17" wheels, side moulding body kit, rally lights, black bonnet stripes, Supertrapp exhaust, BMP intake w/cold air mod, and RDR sway bar.

I have the RDR rear bar. I installed it the same time as my KW varient 1 coilovers and they work very well together. I was a little worried it was to big but the KW's come with fairly mild rear springs and I now have the bar in it's stiffest position. I did not want a 2 position bar and the RDR fits with no problem. The ride with this combination is at least as good as stock and the overall grip and balance are much better.

The RDR bar is very nice, but I guess I am a little biased because we sell them as well. We went with it because of all the track testing they did with the bar before trying to sell it. We have them in stock as well as their rear control arms.

How much are the rear control arms - your site does not have a price listed?

Anyone have a picture of the RDR bar? Both on and off the car? I was thinking of one of the two position adjustable bars but I would like the ability to choose more positions (ie 2 vs 3 hole).

One of the 2 position bars (can't remember which one off the top of my head) has end-stops on it to diminish side to side squirm. Does the RDR bar have these or is it even necessary?

The RDR bar comes with locking collars that attach just outside of the swaybars poly bushings to keep it from moving from side to side.

RDR rear sway bar and rear control arms

The RDR Rear Control Arms are $350 for a set of 4 and are made of heat treated 6061 alumium arms and Teflon coated heim joints. They give you control over rear camber and toe. This is a real plus for the lowered cars. We have all driven behind enough BMW's to see the results of lowing a car without changing the camber.

All the best

RDR Rear bar

Just to clear up a few things, First the bar is made from solid alloy spring metal and is powder coated. The bar is really 20.79mm thick not the 22mm that was reported up above. I know it was just a rough guess, no harm. As gowest has stated the bushing are poly ur and the collars bolt onto the bar to stop the side tp side movement. I think that gowest has the most miles on his set so he may be the best source for feedback on it. We have it in stock now for $245.

All the best

Sway bar

Hi

I have minimania sway bar and lowering springs, you will find the rided quiet hard. To fit if i remember is you need to drop one shock and the rear subframe or what ever it is on a mini. You will need high ramp to do

I put the micrometer on the bar after chris@helix said the bar was not 7/8", and I measure it at 13/16". From pictures I've seen of the 2 position bars on the market, I'd say the holes on the RDR bar are closer together. The base of the nut / washer on the RDR bar fills the entire space between the holes, whereas, on the other bars, there apears to be some solid area between the base of the washer and the next hole. So, the adjustments are more closely spaced, or fine tuneable if you will.

Gowest,

So is the front hole, or the one closest to the axis of the bar closer to the axis than the Madness bar, i.e. less leverage/more stiffness??

Charlie, at RDR is the one that stated the bar was 7/8" thick.....that is a full 1/8 thicker than the Madness bar. But 13/16" is only 1/16" thicker, that is not a bunch of differance. And for 50.00 more, is it worth it?

You have an RDR bar but have you any experiance with the Madness bar?

Thanks for the help

John

Any lub require btw bushes & sway bar ?

Hi all,

Just installed a thicker (19mm) rear sway bar recently, what an impressive improvement in cornering but annoying by some (Eddd....Eddd/Giit...giit..) sound from the new bar (I guess), any solution ?
