Aluminium suspension?

Just spent some time at the Nissan site looking at the 350Z, and noticed that it uses aluminium suspension components. Seems like a very attractive option.

The MINI is steel. Correct?

How much extra would it cost to do in aluminium? If I was going to spend $1000 on upgrading how the car contacts and interacts with the road, I'd prefer to spend it on invisible upgrades like lightening the suspension components.

Has anyone looked into these types of modifications?

the heftier items on the mini suspension are steel: front and rear wishbones, sway bars, shock bodies and springs, control arms. You might easily replace the rear control arms with aluminum and save a few pounds, but I would't risk it. Some of the other items could be made of aluminum to a certain extent, but at a huge engineering effort.

Whoops. I meant to say MINI ISN'T aluminum. Forgive my stupidity. That post was way too early in the morning. Here is a pic of my mini's underside, showing the formed link.
