Australia Aussie suspension mods

Last friday sent my mcs in to pedders suspension in dandyong and they performed the following

Adjustable camber/castor adjustment front

before there was no adjustment available I now have 2degree neg camber this is the max though as the top of the strut rubs if you go for any more. This was done using kmac strut plates.

Advantages, much improved bite on turn in and less front end push, in fact its now hard to squeal the tyres on turn in.

Disadvantages, ride is a bit harsher as the kit uses urethane bushes in the strut plates and there is slightly more transmitted noise but the trade of to me is worth it.

Adjustable rear sway bar.

This was custom made and i cannot thank scott at pedders enough for his efforts. Kmac make a bar but its not adjustable, this bar is 3 way adjustable and is about 20mm
It turned out to be infact cheaper than the kmac.

Advantages.

Turn in and understeer are much improved in conjunction with the camber adjustment in fact its possible to lift an inside rear wheel theres so much grip available. It also makes the nose much more adjustable and brings the rear suspension into play, allowing some rear end sliding.Note these comment are made with the bar in its softest setting. I will probably move to the middle setting for the street.

Disadvantages

I havent found one the car is on a different level handling wise (how cool is it to slide the rear of a front wheel drive car through a roundabount then bring it back into line with the throttle) This is very controlable and only happens when provoked.

With the 2 mods combined i cut 1 sec of my time at phillip island, this may not sound like much but it made the car so much more consistant, before my best lap time was a full sec better than any other time as it was hard to get the best out of the car. After the mods i did ten laps within a sec of my best time. The other thing i noticed is the car was equally using its front/rear tyres , after most sessions i checked the hot tyre pressures and they were almost identical fr/bk were as before there was 5psi diff.

Ok hope i havent bored everyone to death if you would like some help with the above mods ring Scott at pedders in dandynong melb and he will happly help you out, he is a genuine enthusiest.

p.s there is no cnnection between me and this vendor

Scott

The rear sway bar is linked to the rear suspension to allow less roll Its not a strut brace you may be thinking of. Id post a pic but im computer illiterate and its almost hidden without removing a wheel

That's a great post, Scott. Although I'm not considering such mods, it's great that you have done this and passed on some credible details that will allow others to make their own judgements.

Good luck at the track. I hope that we can get a small MINI support group down to a track to support you and Adam (if he gets his car back).

Regards, ElTel
