Careful with your KW coil-overs

I just got back from Hartge where I got my new 18" wheels. Pictures on the way as soon as I can clean the car.

A note of warning to anyone buying KW coil-overs. There are at least two springs KW makes for the Cooper S, post spring 2002. The first one (the one on my car) requires gigantic spacers (10mm) and removal of the helper spring to work with my new 18" rims. It requires 15mm spacers to work with the stock S-lites and no removal of the helper spring. Bad news for German owners is that there is no TUV approval for this setup.

Knowing this problem, KW went back to the drawing board and designed a new spring that works with the 18"s with only 5mm spacers. A much better solution. I am working through KW right now to try to get a set of these springs.

If anyone else has had this problem or luck in getting the new springs from KW, give me a yell.

Hi Brian,

i have the new KW's, it works with 7,5x18 Kahn RSR ET45 without spacers.

How were you able to get the new springs? KW still has not answered me back.

i got my kw variant2 coilovers in jan, 03 and it fitted my old 17x8 (215/45/17) hamanns & my current 17x7.5 (215/45/17)volk racing rims without needing any spacers. i did remove the front helper springs so that i can lower the car a little more.

a friend of mine is using OZ chrono evolution 18x7 (225/35/18) and he also has no problem and he doesn't need spacers at all.
