What is the standard 2014 Mini audio like?

Hi all,

Just wondering what the standard audio system is like on the 2014 Mini as I've not had a chance to have a listen?

Is it better than the R56? I had a 2009 Cooper D previously and the audio was pretty pants, but I am wondering if the new system is better, given that there are a lot more parts in common with the BMWs now?

Just wondering whether it is worth forking out the £590 for the Harmon Kardon system, I think consensus was that it was on the R56.

Advice much appreciated!

Cheers,
Ryan.

It's really good, the base speakers are under the front seats and give a nice rich sound as do the mid range speakers in the doors and rear panels,in my opinion it's much better than my outgoing R56

I'm not that impressed by the speakers in my F56, I'm wishing I'd gone for the upgrade, I don't find it bassy enough and find the sound rather flat

Standard is 2 x 4" full range door speakers and 2 x 6.5 bass speakers under the seats. Visual boost option adds 2 more 4" full range in the rear. Most people seem happy with these options. If the standard/boost is better than an R56 though then so will the HK option be better than the R56 HK. The F56 HK has 5 x tweeters and 5 x 4" midrange and 2 x 8" bass speakers under the seats. One of the tweeter/midrange combinations are a centre channel. Plus a more powerful amp so if you can afford it go for it.

Some people are like a Slinky ........ not really good for anything, but you still can't help
but smile when you shove them down the stairs

Sorry to question your knowledge but is this correct?
I've been told that the visual boost adds the under seat subs to the standard 4x4" speakers.
I'll be happier if your correct as I regret not going for the visual boost.

That was what I originally understood but looking at RealOEM it seems you get the rear 4" speakers if you have Visual Boost or Navigation system Professional or MINI Driving modes. RealOEM does not indicate you need any option for the basic subs so everyone should get them except HK. HK gets their own subs so it is reasonable to deduce basic subs are the 6.5" version and HK the 8" version. Unfortunately I think no one can give a definitive answer, least of all the dealers.

Well don't keep us in suspense. Do you like it? Good points/bad points?
