Fuel Economy

Just got a new 2014 Mini hardtop automatic for a few days, traded in a 2009 manual.
Only done around 30 miles so far, but fuel economy in the city is only around 22mpg, with a very light foot and using the 'green' transmission setting. It's meant to be around 29, EPA rating, 34 combined Highway/city.

The old mini would get around 31 in the city.

Could it be the first few hundred miles? these engines are already broken in, I assume, so I doubt it.

I know engines are already "Run In" but I thought it took a few thousand miles before the engine was fully bedded in and you got the best performance and economy.

I got 38mpg on my first tank with 1/2 of it being highway miles and the other 1/2 being with 3 people in the car.
