London to Brighton Mini Run - Sun 16th May 2010

MINI numbers on this are increasing each year as you would expect, although I took my classic on the run last year.
TM have started a MINI entry/convoy list on this should anyone be interested in taking part:
London 2 Brighton,,Sunday 16th May - totalMINI Forums

March or April MiniWorld mag is the only way to get the entry form (no photo copies) unless you join the 'London and Surrey Mini Owners Club' who organise the event.
LSMOC Index
"Any enthusiast is welcome. We have a wide range of opinions in the club which we believe is healthy, ranging from those who are die hard Classic Mini enthusiasts, to those who already own both Classic Minis and New Mini."

March & April 2010 issues of Miniworld out now. Entry form is inside (£30) but get it in the post asap to be sure of an entry, last year was sold out early in February, 4 weeks earlier than usual, maybe because of the 50th publicity.

Last year entry details:

Just got my ticket through the post , if you don't get one you can still come as an unofficial runner but you will have to join the run outside Crystal Palace in the public car park or en-route and then find a normal parking space in Brighton, many people do this.
If you want to join the TotalMINI.com convoy with or without a ticket at some point, go to here and register.

Event Reminder Tomorrow:
Pre-entered Mini's/MINI's (all 2100 tickets now sold) sign in at Crystal Palace Park by 7.30am, pick up their passes and get a guaranteed parking space on Madeira Drive in Brighton when they arrive there.
However many others without official run tickets just park up in the seperate public car park at CP, view the starters queued up bumper to bumper through CP Park........(quite an impressive sight to see), then head down to Brighton for the show from approx. 8am, but have to find their own parking spot somewhere nearby when they arrive. Pedestrian entry to the Mini show and traders on Brighton seafront is free and open to the public until the event finishes around 5pm.

I was dissapointed last year, as there really are no new MINIS in the show, and absoloutly NO parts for this car on the stalls?

Lots of New MINI's on the run and in the show this year but few new MINI parts on sale. If you want more, then more MINI owners need to apply for tickets early like the classics do and the traders will follow when they think there is enough demand to make it a profitable day for them.
ie. Support the events with the same enthusiasm as the classic owners do.......it took many years for them to grow to their present size. The first London to Brighton Mini Run was 25 years ago with about 200 Minis and with NO traders selling parts for several years!

The London to Brighton Run – The Early years.
1986
The first Run was a pretty low-key affair. The LSMOC was only a small club and there was no easy way to let people know about it. There were no Mini magazines back then and only a dozen clubs. Battersea Park and Preston Park in Brighton were booked for a nominal fee.

The first Run was held up by bikers protesting about being made to wear helmets. Once the cars were parked we managed to count them and there were just over 200 of them. There was little organised at Brighton and people just looked around the cars and chatted about the run. However, it was clear people really enjoyed driving down to Brighton together.

The Club certainly didn’t realise how important the first Run was, devoting just nine lines to it in the first newsletter after the event.
