Factory Visit

I have just ordered my MINI. (Red cooper, white roof, 17" rims, Chilli pack). I was just wondering if it is possible to see 'my' car being built? (Sad, I know, but why not?). Anybody had any experience in trying to arrange this, or do I need to save up for a TVR to get this kind of treatment?

Ant, i dont think it can be done.....unless you bribe someone.

The factory tour is excellent though, definitely worth a look round.

In case you haven't found this yet, here is an excellent article on a MINI factory tour (it was held for the press).

As far as I know you don't need to buy a TVR to visit the factory!

It may just be my old brain sputtering, but I seem to remember reading some months back about the possibility of a web cam being installed in the Mini factory to let us watch assembly. I've searched, but can't find the posting.

If not, seems like a good idea.

Any clues as to how to book a tour? That would be second best! Need to have something else to look forward to - only 2 days since I ordered it, and I'm already getting impatient! I am currently keeping myself busy 'vrooming' a 1/18th scale model around my desk. (Said I was becoming sad )

I was lucky. Ady (R50) managed to get some tickets for a tour...for Classic Mini Owners. Not sure how to go about getting one organised, however there was talk of a MINI2 tour talking place. Not Sure if PaulM has heard anymore from them??

Factory Tours?

Hello Brits & all -
I'm planning a trip to London for late November, wondering if a tour at Oxford is possible? This thread seems vague, some saying it can't be done, others saying they went and loved it. Anyone have any ideas, short of driving out & begging? (I hate to beg..)

At the moment a Factory tour is unavailiable, there isn't the facilities set up for them yet. As soon as they become a possibility MINI2 and its members will be at the front of the queue. I believe that some time next year this will happen. keep any eye on the events section for more info

Members of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers in the Oxford area can go on a tour running next June, I think it is. Probably booked up by now though. It was advertised in the diary and events section of the fascinating publication that is Professional Engineering a couple of months ago!

Guess who bagsied himself a place...

Clue: It was me!

Thumbs up

Well, fancy that! I wonder- what would it take to get an engineering degree & license and join the club? I could study from now until June, if only I didn't have to work

The factory have an open day every now and then for staff, families and friends - so get friendly (or start a family) with a factory employee - it worked for me!
