MINI challenge 2006 (previously JCC) Pembrey meet - 27-28th May 2006

As you may know the John Cooper Challenge has a new name and new organisers for 2006 - it is now called the MINI Challenge and is part of the Dunlop Great & British Motorsport Festival.

Rockingham has for some reason been dropped as a venue this year and is replaced by Pembury - this is near Llanelli right at the end of the M4 in Wales.

This is what the official MINI Challenge web site says about the circuit:

Located at the bottom of the M4 and then some, Pembrey, it has to be said is a bit out on a limb. However don't let that put you off because it is a great circuit.

It's another airfield job so, again, it's a bit flat which can make finding your way around difficult until you get used to it. The lap is governed by two vital corners: Brooklands Hairpin and Honda Curve. Each leads on to a critically fast part of the circuit so carrying speed is vital. The inner part of the circuit is seemingly a never ending sequence of bends while the incredibly tight Hatchers hairpin is at the end of the longest straight making it very easy to overshoot under braking.

So are there any intrepid MINI2'ers who wish to attend the event? At present I don't have details on which day the main race will be on or the costs of spectating at the event, but fear not - I am on the case and those details will be added asap.

Hoping to make this one. It's my old neck of the woods. Been to a few motorbike track days at Pembrey, not a bad track, bit basic though.

Had a very quick think and I say lets meet at the track at 11.30 AM. You are of course welcome to go earlier if you wish.

Anyone who wants to convoy from Cardiff meet in Cardiff West services, J33 M4 at 1030 for the last leg down there.
